2nd Trimester

Pregnant and hives!!! HELP!!

It was a month ago when I started to break out in hives...I'm constantly itching and scratching almost to the point where I have to change clothing due to blood. I saw my Doc and a Dermatologist. They put me on Steroids and a  cream to help with the itch...Both Doc's said it's not PUPPS. One Doc said it's a bad case of Eczema, the other doctor thinks it's an allergic reaction...But from what?? I haven't changed my diet, food, laundry detergent or lotion..In fact I actually stopped using lotion and I currently use Dove (no scent) soap to bathe in.. I've tried benadryl that didn't help one bit...and now I'm on my last day of steroids and it's not helping!!!!  I don't know what to do!!! No relief, no rest :(:(

I don't know if this will help or not but my mother used to tell us to take oatmeal baths when we had itchy skin.  Maybe it's worth a shot?

  • Oatmeal baths, benadryl, and hydrocortisone cream? (all of these are on my OB's OK list but I'd definitely check in when taking other meds, like you mentioned.)

  • I'd check with your OB and see if a bleach bath is safe. You take a bath in diluted bleach and it is supposed to kill of the bacteria causing the eczema to flare.

An unpopular choice is to go to a tanning booth for 5 minutes.  It does the same thing as a bleach bath.  My sister just had her baby a month ago and while she was pg her eczema flared really bad.  Her OB okayed her to go for 5 minutes once a week.

  • I am believe it or not allergic to cold air, and cold water  ( its called coldurticaria ) I break out pretty severe sometimes. I  take zertec for them, and obv avoid the cold. For some people its the sun too.
  • It could just be from the hormones your body produces during pregnancy, I got them after delivery with my last.

The only thing that worked for me was taking Claritin in the morning and Zyrtec at night.  They are a different antihistamine drugs and I took the 24 hour tabs.  I got it cleared with my OB, but you might want to check with yours.  It was the only way I could control the itching so the hives would heal.

  • This is happening to me!!!  Although yours seems to be much worse.  I break out in hives every morning when I wake up.  It's the most annoying thing!  Today I was in my car and my left arm started breaking out in hives/heat rash.  I guess because it was in the sun.  It seems to be worse in the heat/sun.  My right arm was fine!  But it's really uncomfortable!!!  And to be honest I haven't found anything that helps!  It's going to be a very long summer if this keeps up!!!
Good luck and please let me know if you find something that helps get rid of it!!!
  • Wow, I'm sorry, that is awful.

Whenever my skin gets really itchy or I give myself a fantastic sunburn (got one last summer that turned me into a lobster), I use https://www.aveeno.ca/en/products_details.asp?id=1579
