Taco Bell....what do you think?

So, it has recently come out that taco bells "beef" is beef plus filler (like the meat that makes hot dogs). Are we supposed to not eat taco bell beef tacos (you know the ones that are like $0.89 since they aren't 100% beef? Or are they OK?

I can't remember if we aren't supposed to eat hot dogs b/c of the "filler." (though I don't eat hot dogs often anyway).

I saw in another post that someone is craving taco bell...and I have too...but haven't bought any b/c I thought we weren't supposed to eat it.

Re: Taco Bell....what do you think?

  • YOU SHOULD NEVER EAT THE GROUND BEEF FROM TACO BELL.

They use the spinal cords of the cattle in the ground beef...My sister is a Neurologist and there are some really nasty neurological disorders you can get from eating it, some even cause death...the FDA is looking into it, neither my sister nor I are vegetarians but after one of the top Neurologists in the country told her about this, she forbid our family from eating it...it's BAD.

  • Alrighty...thanks for your response. I haven't been eating it, I have been thinking about it recently, but wanted to get your input before placing my order.
  • I didn't mean to get all emotional in my response but it just drives me nuts that they can get away with it...don't they know that pregnant women eat taco bell ALL THE TIME?!?

I wanted to boycott them but I can't...I love the chicken tacos and bean burritos way too much, I just hope the FDA makes them change their ground beef

  • Well, I will boycott them for you! I only eat the beef tacos, er, I USED to eat the beef tacos. With that, you can continue to enjoy your chicken and bean meals, and I will make my tacos at home (or go somewhere else).
  • Didn't Taco Bell just win the lawsuit against them claiming their beef wasn't 100% beef? I remember seeing something like that on the news or something, and in their advertising (TB announced it was just beef and spices in their foods).

FWIW, I HATE the beef at TB! If I go there I'll get either a chicken quesadilla or a steak Chalupa. And their pintos and cheese :)

  • Personally, everything in moderation.  If you're eating Taco Bell everyday, that's a problem.  I'm not saying that what they put in their "meat" is all good, but having it every once in a while isn't going to kill you.  And who knows what exactly is in their bean burritos or "chicken"?  Pretty much all fast food is bad.  Everything in moderation.  I'm sorry, but it just seems like everyday there is another news article about how this and that is bad for you because they did a study where that's all people ate.  Duh!  That means they're probably not getting all the right nutrients and getting a lot of others.

Sorry...maybe I'm just being hormonal.  I guess watching Food Inc. has made me skeptical of everything food-related and I feel you just have to live your life and eat as balanced as you can, making the best choices available.  With that being said, I haven't been eating so good during first tri, but I'm not trying to worry about it so much.

  • Oh ya...and limiting hot dogs is because of the nitrates in them.  But my doctor literally said "if you feel like a hot dog, then eat a hot dog." Lol

  • This is a personal decision and 100% up to you. Just go with your gut and do what you feel is best. FWIW I crave TB sometimes but I don't eat the meat at all, just a cheese quesadilla :P

I would like to see a link to some proof of this claim.

Pretty sure it's the same type of stuff that you buy in the grocery store. And yes, obviously it's not always just the muscle, but that's normal for any ground meat. It's still edible and usually safe. In moderation of course. I personally only like their chicken products (mmm chalupa!), but just chose wisely!
  • Just the thought of Taco Bell turns my stomach, pregnant or not.  I'd much rather spend a few extra dollars and make my own tacos (with ground turkey) than eat those, but that's my personal preference.  I don't think I've eaten there since HS, maybe college, and I don't miss it at all.  Nothing to do with the rumors about what's in the meat, just the fact that it doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

The lawsuit they won said they didn't use a high enough percentage of beef to call the filling "beef" at all.  I think that the cutoff is like 40-60%, but I wouldn't swear to that part.
