Trying to Get Pregnant

First Clomid check and disappointing news.

So I had my first Clomid check today (blood work and u/s). Before my u/s my RE warned me that some people are Clomid resistant, and it doesn't work to jump start O. During the u/s she said that she sees no signs that I'm gearing up to O. When she said this I wanted to cry because I was so frustrated.

So, I'm going back to my RE Wednesday to double check that I'm not responding to the Clomid (another u/s) because she said some people are just "late bloomers". I'm seriously crossing everything right now. If I'm still not responding by then, we have to talk about moving on to Femara. From what I've read about it, it seems pretty scary. Has anyone taken Femara? I read that there's a chance for it to cause problems for the baby if I get pregnant after taking Femara.

ETA: The reason I was so frustrated/disappointed was because according to my RE, it will be more difficult for me to get KU if the Clomid doesn't work.

No there's not. Only if you continue taking it after you become pregnant. Femara has an extremely short half life and is out of your body before you would even ovulate.

That's good to hear. She gave me a lot of information about Femara, and I honestly couldn't understand a lot of it.

I'm sorry it doesn't look like it's working. That stinks. FX that you're just a 'late bloomer'.

I did Clomid 50mg with no response (no O), 100mg with no response before we moved on to Femara 7.5mg.  I completely understand your fear and frustration.  I was a crying mess after each ultrasound, seriously I had to wear my sunglasses out of the REs office so I wouldn't totally embarass myself.  After Femara 7.5mg on CD 3-7, I had my CD 12 U/S on Monday and...  Two follicles!  O happy day!  I felt great on the Femara, no skin breakouts or moodiness.  This is the first time I feel like I am truly in the 2WW and it feels fabulous.

oh, and one more thing...  Femara is pretty expensive, my RE wrote me for a two month supply of 7.5mg and it retailed for over $400.  Good news though, the company gives out a one-time voucher for that amount of tablets free.  More good news?  Femara just came out in generic, it's a little bit cheaper.  None of my local pharmacies had generic, but I got the brand name for free because of the voucher.

I'm pretty sure my insurance will cover most of it. And I'm glad it's out in generic, I hope they have it at my pharmacy.

It's a pretty standard drug. I got mine at Walgreens.

And the plus side- it's not listed as a fertility med, so most insurances will cover it down to at least your standard name brand/generic copay amounts (unless your insurance doesn't cover cancer meds either. Then I'd look into getting different insurance). If you go to Femara.com, there is a card you can print off to get it for $10.

    Awesome! Thanks!

  • According to your chart you're only CD 10 so there's still plenty of time. I can think of lots of girls over on 3T that don't have anything measurable until CD 18+. Don't count yourself out yet!

I thought it was kind of early too, but my RE seems ready to move on if she doesn't see signs that I'm gearing up to O by Wednesday which will be CD 15 I think. : /

by "not responding" did your RE not see any follies at this point,  or some follies that just aren't mature yet?

She didn't really say. All she said was that she wasn't seeing any signs that I was gearing up to O.

  • How long after you finished the clomid did she do the first check?  because I was considered a late responder but I was checked 4 times. CD12, CD14, CD16 (this included a PCT) I o'd around CD16- if the doc had only done 2 checks on me and given up that would have sucked.

And what level of Clomid are you on 150?  Did she start you at lower doses to see how you would respond at all?

It was about 5 days after I started it that she checked me I believe. She started me out on 100mg, and this is the only time I've taken it. Yeah. I'm hoping she's planning on giving me a little more time, I may ask her if she can just check again if things don't look better Weds.

  • I don't know too much you about either option, but I just wanted to say I'm really sorry you're having to go through this all.  I can only imagine how frustrating it must be.  Hang in there.
