Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Contractions?

I wrote this on the third trimester board and didn't get much feedback I was wondering if any of you who have already had their babies could possibly answer this question. So this is my first and I have no idea what certain things are supposed to feel like. I'm 34 weeks almost 35 weeks and there are two other ladies at my work who are 9 and 11 weeks behind me. These other two ladies say they are feeling contractions already, and they both are pregnant with their second ones. I think I had a sign of contractions for the first time last wednesday, but don't know for sure. I had really bad cramps on the upper part of my belly, and I have also felt pressure in my pelvic area like I'm on my period. What would you describe as what a contraction feels like?Cramps? pelvic pressure? etc? Thanks for all your help,Jen

Re: Contractions?

  • My BH felt like my stomach was tightening and it was uncomfortable, but not painful. My contractions (scheduled c/s and started getting them a few days before the c/s) were painful enough that I had to stop and breath through them, but I could talk through them.

    They might be feeling BH.

  • It could be contractions - pay attention to when you feel them & how long they last.  My OB said that if I had more than 6/hour and they do NOT go away by laying down/relaxing, having a drink of water, then to call.

I began to feel contractions at 34/35 weeks. I felt my early ones after an increase in physical activity (going up stairs, walking farther/faster than usual, etc.).  They did go away after a couple minutes.

    Hope this helps!

  • Mine felt like cramps, but I never felt a thing until the day I went into labor. So you may just not really feel as much as your coworkers. If it's a timeable, trackable pain in that area, I'd consider it contractions of some sort.

  • I was 35 weeks & didn't realize that my water broke. I didn't feel any unusual contractions at all. It was more of incontinence for me. You better watch out for other signs like this. Don't assume and it's better safe to consult your OB if you feel anything unusual. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
