Smashing face into chest while in Moby

This only happens when my baby is in a light state of sleep, and her eyes are always closed when it happens. She'll pull away from my chest, slam her face into my chest and then start burrowing, rubbing her face back and forth against me. I know she's not really hurting herself but she seems so agitated. She'll whine and if I don't calm her down she can work into crying.

Does anyone know why she does this? Or is there anyway to get her to stop? If I can't calm her by patting, shushing, bouncing, I end up taking her out of the Moby.

  • Is it like rooting? Is she EBF? The itty bittys root when they want to be BF. My LO would do it when wrapped and half way asleep just like you described, just for comfort. At any case it is normal. Smile

Yeah, DS will do that too.

  • DS does it to me when he's tired and is trying to fall asleep or was asleep and starts to wake up a little. I just 'shush' him and bounce a little and he falls asleep again.

  • I would lean forward (gives room between your chest & her head) and gently turn her head to the side in towards your chest and then pull the panel of the moby (side opposite her face) over the back part and middle of her head, which should hold her securely, and then do the shushing and bouncing described by the PP for a minute or two.

  • Thanks ladies!

Yes, it does seem like she's rooting. Sometimes she'll even have her mouth open or her tongue out. I don't feel like she's really hungry though, she'll do this even if she just ate, but maybe for comfort. I'll try to just get her to calm back to sleep.
