Birthing Classes

Ok, I'm working on signing up for classes. I live in Manassas and we're going to Prince William Hospital for Breastfeeding class and Reston Hospital for a child care class (half the cost of at PW!!) But now I'm trying to find a descent price for a birthing class. PW has it for about $150 and that just seems like an awful amount of money. I'm sure it's the area being so expensive but I know my friends in MI have taken the class for MUCH less!!

So does anyone know of a birthing class of any sort for less then $150 - including the cost of traveling!! (about $5 per half hour away for gas)

TIA

Re: Birthing Classes

  • I would keep checking around.  We took a 2 day course (about 7 hrs both Sundays) that covered birthing, baby care and breastfeeding.  It was $150.  Also, look at the hospital you're delivering at as they sometimes offer discounts if you plan on delivering there.  I don't know much about what the Virginia hospitals offer overall but I would look on the website of any hospital with an L&D Department as they should all offer courses.

  • INOVA's class for birthing (4 nights for 3 hours) was also $150.  Do you have an EAP through your employer?  They will research and send to you all the child birth classes in your area.  I would also contact your local catholic church - they probably have a local pro-life clinic they support and they may offer classes as well.
  • We signed up for classes through our Doctor's office. These are being taught by the same nurses she works with at the hospital and they too are $150, 2 week day sessions. From reading the other posts that seems to be the going rate around here.
