Help with middle name for Giulia

Hello.

DH and I can't seem to come up with a middle name for Baby G!

Looking for suggestions...

Our last name is pronounced "Bilvay".

Nothing ending in "-a"

I'm also trying to avoid anymore "i's" since the name is pretty heavy on "i's" as is.

Grace/Faith/Mae/etc are all a little too popular.

 TIA!

  • Is that pronounced Julia? Sorry...I have never seen this name before...

  • It is.

Its the Italian spelling of Julia....similar to Juliana/Giuliana.

  • Thanks!  Having an Italian first name was really important to me, and DH and I both happened to love "Julia" so going with the Italian spelling was an easy choice!

Thanks for the list, hopefully DH sees something he likes!

Really? You love it but can't be bothered to spell it correctly?

This spelling tops my list of NMS -- I don't find it very attractive at all, and I'm Italian-American. And, as you can see, hardly anyone -- even people who profess to love it -- can manage to spell it correctly. Expect to get a lot of "Gwill-ee-uh?"

yes, i love it even though i managed to have a brain fart. i know, imagine spelling it wrong and still loving the name spelled the ethnic way...wtf was i thinking?

  • I like the suggestion of Claire. I understand wanting the Italian spelling, but I do agree that it isn't going to be pronounced or spelled right in the U.S. I had no idea it was Julia until you said so.

  • I know you didn't want I's, but the first name I thought of before I opened the post was Isabelle. In addition to PP, how about Carys or Eris?

  • OP, I don't think you'll have as tough a time as you think with it. Giuliana Rancic is pretty well known by women our age at least.

Allie30- are you OK? you have been so aggressive lately.

Feel better?  Bad day?  Care to explain the point in making snarky replies on the internet?  It has never made sense to me.

    :)

    Oh, thanks PP.

We expect to get some side-eye, and plenty of miss-spellings and we're okay with that.  My family will be THRILLED that we're using an Italian name.

We're not worried, and not changing it.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

  • Do you  have a person in your family you'd like to honor: a grandparent, a parent, sister, mother, etc?

I would suggest using one of their middle names. It would probably give you a name you hadn't considered, and would be able to have 'meaning' behind it, rather than just filler.

  • Giulia is a gorgeous name, my almost SIL is a Julia. Though it always reminds me of the Julia Gulia line in The Wedding Singer Big Smile

I've no suggestions for a MN. I just say have fun, go to town with it. I have an incredibly boring MN and as such, never use it. It's not on my Driver's Licence, Passport, nothing. Think about things you adore: a singer, a flower, an author, a character in a book? Just my $0.02 :)
