My midwife called me yesterday and told me that she found out that if she bills my insurance for the birth of the baby that she will be breaking her contract with them and she could lose her license. (I think it is because it is a HBAC) She said the only alternative is pay pay her outright, and that is $2000!?!?! I am crushed!!! She originally told me that my insurance will pay 80% and all was good, and NOW I have no idea what to do!! Does anyone know if this is the same with all midwives in WA or if it is just her? I will talk to her tomorrow at my appointment but I would like to get more info now if possible!
Re: Got bad news from my MW
Would you only owe 80% of the $2000?
That really sucks, but maybe consider paying it, it could be cheaper than the alternative For my csection, I am paying $4000 out of pocket.
I have been seeing a midwife but just recently switched to an OB. Anyway, it was going to cost me $2500 but she was allowing me to make payments. Others in my area were normally $3,000 and some even $3500. I know $2000 really sucks especially if you thought your insurance was going to cover it, but I am sure she will allow you to pay it out.
As far as I know, most insurance do not cover a midwife. I would call your insurance company and ask them if they cover a midwife.
You may want to think it through. $2k is actually pretty reasonable. I paid more than that after insurance covered their part.
I also think $2000 is pretty reasonable. My deductible for both of my births was higher than that. You may still save money over having a hospital birth/cesarean depending on your insurance policy.
I paid $4500 out of pocket for my HBAC. We submitted it to insurance--I don't know if they'll reimburse anything but it's worth a shot. You can probably work out a payment agreement with your MW.
We did just that! We worked out a wonderful payment arrangement, my MW is a blessing. I am so happy and can now just concentrate on this pregnancy and the wonderful HBAC I will have in 4 months
Great news! GL with your HBAC
