What in the world would possess you to bring your mother or a mother figure on a job interview? Yes, for real someone just did this in my office. And not just for a teenage summer job...for a real adult job that requires a college education. Am I the only one who finds this hilarious and could not see beyond it for the applicant's qualifications??

Re: Not at all baby related...
That sounds REALLY bizarre. What did the mother or mother figure DO during the interview?
Lol maybe the applicant needed some motherly guidance to answer the interview questions...

Was the mother elderly. I mean, was the daughter old enough to have to physically care for her mother. Maybe the mother could not be left alone and they didn't have another option?? I know, that's stretching it. :-p
I have read about helicopter parents but never seen it to this extreme!! I am a few years older than she must be, but my parents woud never never do that.
The older woman sat in the tiny waiting area of my tiny office and read my co-worker's daughter's personal copy of Highlights magazine. For 90 minutes. For real. What a crazy world!
My other co-worker thinks the applicant was scared of the neighborhood. :P

I am laughing at my desk and trying to picture someone walking into my boss' office with their mother in tow...
I would even frown on that for a summer job though. I had many jobs form the time I was 15 and never once did my mom accompany me.
I'm still laughing about this several hours later. I wish my boss would have done what you suggested, Tanya+Da! He just went with it, but he did give me a look behind her back that makes me think he wasn't too happy about it.
I agree with you, 2mommies... I also had jobs as a teenager and never brought a parent. I definitely think it is poor form. However, I think it's becoming more common for teenagers, as silly as that is. I am a bit embarrassed to admit that I had to call my dad while I was filling out the tax paperwork for my very first job (at age 16) - but at least I already had the job and he wasn't there in person!

This doesn't seem odd to me. She drove you, then dined on her own. If she had ordered up some fries and then copped a spot in the booth next you I'd give it the side eye :-p
I'm not trying to hijack, but I have a funny story:
I applied for a job at a retail clothing store. The clothes are pretty "young" I guess, but being 24 I thought I was still cool enough to work there. I got called back for a group interview, awesome.
Um, not awesome- out of 6 applicants, I was the oldest by 5 years, I was only one of 2 that had had a job before, and surprisingly I was only one of 3 that didn't bring their mom. Seriously!? Oh, and I was the only one not dressed like I just got off the bus from my highschool to hang at the mall, but I actually looked like I was going to an interview.
At first I felt really stupid, but I just pulled the interviewer aside and told her I didn't think I was what they were looking for, and thanked her for her time. I don't think I could have handled working with them. I can hardly handle shopping there anymore.
