Worth it? or should I just piece together something on my own? I've looked at a couple and dont plan on using the bumpers that come with them (will use breathable only) or the quilt.
not worth it--this time around i am just buying sheets and curtains. we never used the bumper, the crib skirt had to come off as we lowered the mattress and the only time the blanket was used was in the winter on MY lap if i was cold in the middle of the night and nursing DD.

I couldn't find anything I liked so this is what we pieced together a cute striped breathable bumper, a toddler bedding set from Target with matching night light and 2 throw pills, a rug and wall decal from Babies R Us, a lamp from Babies R Us, a diaper and wipes thing that attachs to the crib as opposed to a diaper stacker, we are still looking at window treatments and mobiles. The toddler bed set was $30 as opposed to 180 to 300 and the bumpers are 14.99.
I bought one the first time. I used most of it, and *gasp* used the bumper. For 2nd DS, I bought part of a set at a consignment sale and hardly used it. This time, I found a pattern I love but is costly. So I'll be buying the bumper.
I know they say don't use the bumper but I do anyway. Flame away.

My mom made a quilt out of recieving blankets and fleece and a matching bed skirt. DD slept in the quilt it until the following fall, it was light and not fluffy. She refused to sleep in a sack and refused to be swaddled. If you swaddled her or put her in a sleep sack she screamed non stop until you took her out of it. The nurses at the hospital told me that light blankets and warm jammies were fine.
We will probably do the same for this little one.

We didn't get one with DD and won't get one now. We just used sheets and used a breathable bumper when she started rolling over. I never put bumpers or blankets in the crib at all. We used sleep sacks when the weather was cold.
Not worth it and I wish I had known ahead of time. I only used the bumper for a short time since she was pretty mobile in her crib from the start, even swaddled, the crib skirt doesn't sit right in the crib and all you really see is the sheet. I could have saved a lot on that one.
No, it wasn't worth it for me. We ended up only using the sheet and the crib skirt.

This! We are actually selling everything except the sheet because we never used it. It was such a waste and this time around we are just buying a sheet. I will make a valence and bedskirt and my mom will make the quilt. I could have save over $100!

Re: 2nd time mom+ bedding sets?
DS's set came all together, and the only thing we haven't used is the quilt.
This time, we're ordering from PBK and getting the set that includes sheet, crib skirt, and bumper.
