birthday party question

It's that time of year again where I'm starting to plan C's bday party. I have a couple of places in mind, but the issue we have each year is how to handle the adults. We have twice the number of adults as we do kids that usually come (all family members!). Places like Chuck E Cheese and ITZ' only include kids in the party cost and we could spend a fortune feeding the adults. At both places above that we are considering, pizza is included for the kids regardless of the time of day.

If we did it at either, but not at a meal time, would it be tacky not to feed the adults too? DH thinks so. I'm looking at 1) The cost. An extra $100 or more to feed the adults and 2) The party is for DS and his friends/cousins to have a good time. When I go to kids parties, I don't assume that the adults will be fed too.

Your thoughts? In the past we did Pump it Up and The Woodlands Children's Museum and did it away from a meal time to avoid the food issue.

Re: birthday party question

  • How many adults are you realistically thinking?  We just did Chuck E Cheese and the adults were cheap.

  • My brother and SIL started doing a double party this year and it worked really well.  From 10-12, the party was for my nephew's classmates/friends.  There was a bounce house, hot dogs, and cupcakes.  Then starting at 12ish, the party was more for family and friends of my brother/SIL.  There was brisket, snacks and cake (and beer, lol).  The classmates all left after lunch and the rest of the afternoon was geared more for the adults although the bounce house was still around.

  • I don't know the answer to this question but I'm interested to see what everyone says.  I looked into both iT'Z and CEC but the expense for the adults is what was turning me off.

We're doing a morning party so it's not a time that I would expect to be fed (9:15-11:15). But the cy fair Pump it Up said we can bring in fruit/veggie trays with no extra cost. Unless the party is at noon I think just having a little something to munch on is fine.

If it's at noon, then I would expect to be fed.

  • We are probably looking at about 20 adults at least. Does Chuck E Cheese charge full price for any extra pizzas you order or is there a deal? I haven't looked into specfics, just assuming it was full price.
  • I wouldn't have a problem feeding the adults, especially since they will probably be bringing gifts.  Now, I don't think I would buy enough to get them incredibly fat and full.  I'd factor a couple of slices per adults and buy the pizza.  That's about 5 more pizzas.  They should be able to accomodate that at a reasonable price.
