Has anyone's LO allergic to a new food? And if so, did it manifest through a rash?
Disclaimer: Yes, I am taking DD to a doctor. Just looking to hear something from other moms in the meantime since I couldn't get an appointment today. It's a rash that isn't that red but on the torso and mostly little bumps like goosebumps. Think it may have been from the strawberries she tasted the first time the other day, though I hope not since she really loved them. I set out to isolate each new food but DH isn't home much and when he is, he just kind of gives her whatever without consulting with me first.
Re: Allergic Rash?
DS got a rash after eating wheat. I have a post about it below asking is this a wheat allergy.
I also talked to his pedi live at his 9 month and then called again today due to the latest reaction he got from the nanny accidently giving him something with wheat in it. Anyways, I am not really sure myself, but the nurse practioner said today that my doctor was on vacation today, not to give it to him and since he has had multiple rashes and they get worse each time, not to give him anything that has any wheat in it at all (even traces) until she sees him. She is going to talk to her about a consult with an allergist and potentially test him.
To answer your question the 1st time he got the rash it was similar to what you describe... very small little bumps, ours wear slightly pink. His were mostly on back of neck, shoulder 1st time. 2nd time they were a little more pink and also on his back and chest.
This last time the rash was more red and in addition, he had a few hives.
I think with continued exposure the reaction is getting worse.
I am not a doctor, but yes, to a lay person it sounds similar and my guess is that you might want to avoid anything with strawberry until you can get to your doctor and discuss next steps. Hopefully your LO and mine boht grow out of it and they are not real lifelong allergies if they are allergies at all.
Goodluck!
Yes, and yes. Shrimp was the big trigger, and it was through my BM too.
It's been a downhill spiral since then, with lots of food allergies. :-(
My pediatrician doesn't seem concerned about it.
He thinks it's just eczema and the warm weather will help it go away.
I am kind of annoyed about this and ready to find a new doctor.
He's getting allergy tested soon to pinpoint exactly what's up.
I've been through it all the past year in regards to food allergies. DON'T let your pedi be relaxed about this. Go to an allergist. I didn't know that much about food allergies until my LO developed them. A reaction can turn ugly at anytime.
My DD also has eczema and it's brutal sometimes. The warm weather doesn't help b/c of the humidity and sweat can cause irritation. We use Mustaela from BRU it's the only lotion that seemed to help.
Because strawberries are acidic, the cause skin irritation the first times they are introduced. it doesn't necessarily mean your LO is allergic. my allergist explained this to me that strawberries actually are not a main allergin.
Is the rash itchy? and where is located... on the face, arms or hands?
