Two Under 2

if your LOs share a room, who goes to bed first?

Right now, my LOs have their own rooms. DD1 goes to bed first, and then DD2 goes to bed. We move on Friday and they will then share a room. DD1 is a light sleeper, so on one hand I want to put DD2 to bed first when they share so that DD1 doesn't wake up and then I have to try to put her to bed all over again. However I don't think DD1 will go to bed easily if she sees #2 in the room. What do you do?

  • DD1 is 20 months.  DD2 is 7.5 months.  On non-bath nights, we usually put DD2 down at 7, and DD1 down at 8.  On bath nights, we put them in the bath between 7:15 and 7:30, and then they are both in bed by 8:15.  DD2 does get cranky, but this is the best way for us.

On nights DD2 goes down first, she usually wakes a bit when we bring DD1 in.  DD1 usually looks at her and says "BABY!" but that's about it.  She goes to bed fine either way.

  • I always put the baby down first, then put DS to bed later. Plus, DD needs an earlier bedtime anyway so it worked out well that way.

Ours just started sharing a room 2 weeks ago.  We are putting them down now at the same time.  My youngest used to go to bed a half hour earlier but she is our light sleeper.  So we put them down at the same time instead of waking her up when we go in the room later.  So far it is working way better than I suspected... although it is taking them both longer to fall asleep than it used to...but I am hoping that is still just a transition thing.
