How often do you take pictures?

I know there are obviously a lot of moms on here that really into photography so I will take that into account but...how often do most moms take pictures? I feel like SUCH a slacker because I am just now uploading pics off my camera from New Years Eve and Christmas and I literally havent taken any pics since. I have pics from Nicholas' 1st birthday because friends/family took some but other than that I literally have none. Scratch that I have the awesome pics Jen Rose took for us. But thats it. Am I just a huge slacker?

I blame a lot of it on the fact that I don't like my point and shoot camera (panasonic lumix) It's a perfectly nice camera I just feel like the pictures always end up blurry or not flattering because it doesnt take them fast enough before Nicholas moves or the lighting is just terrible. I asked for a nice DSLR for mothers day/birthday/anniversary and we are looking into a few different options but yea...am I the only slacker? I just dont think to take pictures on a regular basis. We have a few taken on our cell phones but thats it.

Re: How often do you take pictures?

  • Of my own kids, on average about 1500 per month. I can't help myself!
  • I've been a huge slacker lately. Between chasing H around and dealing w/ L I just don't have time to grab the camera. I do use my phone a lot, but obviously the quality isn't the greatest.

I was awful about not taking pics for this reason before I got my DSLR.  Now, I take pics at least once a week since the quality is soooo much better.

  • So much so that my husband (and the rest of my family) poke fun at me for ALWAYS having the camera around my neck. More specifically, usually at least once a week.
  • I take pictures fairly often, but mostly using my phone (which has probably as nice of a camera as my point and shoot).  Using an actual camera . . .not too often.  It's nothing planned, it's just, "oh look Logan's doing something cute" and my phone is always right there.

DH's phone takes really great pictures, as nice as our point and shoot, but he's gone all day so to try and take just a cute picture at random like you said I just...dont? My phones camera is officially dead so I probably should just upgrade and get a nicer phone that has a better camera on it... man! I'm coming up with all sorts of excuses to get new electronics!

Also, for the moms that do take a lot of pics-- what do you do with them all? where do you store them? Thats the other problem-- I basically never get pictures printed and then once I get them printed I never get around to framing and hanging them/displaying them...I suck at this whole sentimental mom stuff

If you are contemplating a new phone just for the camera, do not do it.  No phone can ever promise a quality shot.  No matter how good they are.  I have a phone that takes "great" photos, but not great compared to my cameras.  Invest $130 into a great point and shoot.  I highly recommend the Canon a3100 IS.

Cheaper than a new phone, and worth every penny IMO.  You can see shots I took with DH's a3100 business camera on FB.  The egg hunt shots were all taken with that camera and tweaked very slightly in PSE.  I am very happy with that camera for an easy to pack around workhorse.  It is great!

You can do it mama.  I am happy to answer any questions you have.  Hit me up on FB.  You will rock a better camera.  Let me know if I can help you.

ETA:  When I started with my DSLR, I took 800 photos a month.  Crazytrain, right?  Now that I am more comfy with the camera, I take more like 100 a month.  Last month, I took 24.  LOL.  Either I am slacking, or happy with what I have.  There isn't a right number, and quality is king.  If you take 3 great shots, it is completely ok to be DONE for the month.

  • I'm with shawnsweetie, I take way too many pictures. I make coffee table albums with them at least once a year, and give the albums as gifts to the family. Sometimes i make special albums of trips or events. There are always free albums if you follow any coupon blogs. I also get a free album every year with my pampers points. But a lot of pictures just live on my computer, or are but on our digital photo frame for a slideshow.

Let's start a slacker moms club.  I take photos at special events and when we go places together (about twice per month).  I only take them off my camera every 3 months.  Then I never upload them anywhere or do anything with them.  I keep saying its something I'll do in the evenings, but I never get around to it.

As far as taking photos goes, I would much rather enjoy the moment then take a crapload of photos trying to get the perfect shot.  Don't get me wrong, I'll take a few for big occassions, but if they aren't perfect, I really don't care.

However, the lack of photos displayed in our house and the excess of blank wall space is slightly embarassing.  And the fact that I can think of 2 photo frames that are displayed in my house with the "model" family in it.  :)

  • I take about 50-100 a month. I used to keep photos of backs of heads, etc but now I just keep the quality ones. I don't get them all printed, I start a folder in my pictures file for each month and rename them with the date(1). I don't feel guilty in the least for not printing all of them, I just get a select few and rotate them in my frames and then get a bunch of 4x6's to go in an album. Sometimes I dont print at all...but I'd rather have the photos than nothing at all :)

  • I probably take 50-100 a month.  I'm trying to make sure I take plenty of Levi...the first child always has so many pictures and I don't want him to end up like so many second children that have no pictures of them growing up!  So I try to take a few every day if I remember, they're nothing great though, just snapshots.

I upload to our computer every week or so, they're in folders by year and month and each picture gets labeled with a date.  I don't print any off for around the house, but whenever I get a good deal from Snapfish or Shutterfly I'll print a bunch and put them in albums.  I have probably 6 or 7 albums I've filled since Noah was born.

  • I take about 100-150 a month.  Well, I take a lot more than that but I usually keep about that many.  I am taking pictures on most days, it's just a habit now.  I upload them whenever I get a chance and I store them in folders my month and then by year.  I have them on my laptop and uploaded the same way to Kodak Gallery online.

Recently I printed over 600 pictures (when Kodak had a print sale) from the last few years and filled two coffee table albums.  Nothing special, just kinda plopped them in chronological order so we had something to look at.  In general I print a few here and there for family.  I plan to print a decent amount every few months now so I can keep up on the photo albums.  I hated that all of my cute pictures were being forgotten on the computer.  Overall it's pretty cheap to print and store in photo albums.

  • I take between 50-200 a week probably.  I like to take pictures and am always taking them when we are on playdates or just anytime.
