DH and I woke up early and drove to Shady Grove for my first IUI. He dropped off his "sample" and we went and ate breakfast at Panera. We were both so nervous and joked that if it worked, we'd have to name the baby Panera. Then we went back for my appointment and I remember just shaking in the waiting room. It was unreal how quick the IUI was. I somehow expected a bit more ceremony or something. Instead, Dr. Stillman kind of breezed in, they showed me the ID tag on the catheter so quickly that I could barely read it, and next thing I knew, the nurse set a timer and told me I could get up when it buzzed.
On our way home, we stopped by Krispy Kreme and I got a lemon cake donut before we drove home. I had taken the day off work and I spent the afternoon daydreaming and wishing that the IUI would be successful. I imagined how life would be if I had a baby, I figured out the due date, and I tried to picture a combination of me and DH with pudgy baby legs and cheeks, smelling like baby powder.
One year later, I look back and think to myself how unbelievably lucky I am. My world is a million times better now that J is part of it. I didn't know what I was missing until he got here.
Thank goodness for Shady Grove Fertility. One year ago today, they made our family complete!
Re: One year ago today....
I remember a story similar to this, although it took me two IUI cycles.
We even went to Panera for breakfast in-between our appointments!
Congratulations, it's a great thing to look back on!
write that exact same story and save it for your DS for when he's older
That is a great story! I wish DH had been there for our lucky IUI... but we were already on the third one and he couldn't go in late that day. So, I like to joke that there was a man present in the room when H was conceived but it wasn't DH!
I love love Shady Grove!
