Austin Babies

dh update

Thank you to everyone for the well wishes/prayers, etc.  My husband went in for surgery at 1:00, and came out around 6:00 yesterday.  They removed about 6 inches of his colon and reattached it.  The fear was that there wasn't enough healthy colon to reattach (which would have him looking at 5 months of wearing a "bag") and that he wasn't healthy enough to endure the surgery because of his widespread infection.

Everything went as well as possible though.  There was enough healthy colon to reattach it, and he made it through the surgery just fine.  I stayed for about 3 hours post op with him.  He couldn't speak English during the post-op, just Italian which was actually freaking hilarious.  The nurses were entertained.  His mom flew in from Portland and was able to stay with him (and translate for the nurses!) and then I drove back home to Austin, because the kids were having a hard time at their aunt's house.  Got home around midnight to pick up two crying, very scared kiddos.  Trying to give them some sense of normalcy today and we will go to pick dh up from the Hospital either Friday night or Sat. morning.

All in all, it's a good outlook for the situation, so we're very happy.  I'm glad his mom is here to watch him in the hospital so that I can be here with the kids.  As crazy as that sounds, I need for the kids to be not scared so that we don't have freak-outs from every corner of our household. We both decided that was best.  MIL will be flying back home Saturday.

  • I'm so glad the surgery was a success and your dh is on the road to recovery.  My mom had the same surgery and she started feeling better almost instantly.  Hopefully this will ward off the seizures as well.  I can not even imagine how hard this must be on you with the worry and stress and everything you have on your shoulders.  If you need anything, please let us know.  Sending a giant hug your way.
  • thanks for the update and I'm so glad the surgery went well!  I didn't get a chance to post yesterday but I've been sending prayers and thinking of you guys.  I hope your DH has a quick recovery and is home soon.  Sending hugs, good thoughts and prayers!
  • Continued thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!

  • I'm so glad the surgery went as well as it could! I hope he recovers and feels better quickly. How long do they anticipate him having to stay in the hospital.

You are such a great mom and wife. I can't imagine driving in at midnight after what must have been an exhausting day. Please let us know if there's anything we can do.
