QOTD: Do you plan to enroll you chil(ren) in sports or dance - any activity really - once they get old enough? Will you guide them toward an activity that you like or give them options and let them choose?
Not much new here. Ella has been waking up very early (4:45 am) a few times per week. It is killing us. I am not sure what the problem is. I almost got her back to sleep but no dice. I am running on fumes today. The good news is that I weighed E on our scale yesterday and she was 24.2lbs! Up about 1.5 lbs from the dr last month. Different scales but def. more which is good. I am so looking forward to summer I can barely handle it.
Question of the week: E will doing some sort of organized activities. I took horseback riding and gymnastics as a kid along with swimming lessons. Once I began competitive gymnastics at 9 I dropped my other activities. DW was a mega athlete doing all of the typical ball sports. I want to start E in some sort of activity soon. I would love to do a mommy and me gymnastics class this summer but I need to check on the price and times. If not this summer I am sure she will do something by 3. I want her to be able to try lots of things when she is young and then pick one or two that she really likes when she is older. I don't want her over scheduled. I want to say that she can do what she is interested in but I must say that I will be steering her away from dance. Around here the programs are a bit intense and I don't like how the little girls do some kind of risque moves in some of the numbers (I have had to sit through many dance recitals) that said if she really wants to dance she will be able to dance. It may kill my dw though. I am really looking forward to signing her up for soccer though. Little Ella with shin guards and cleats makes me smile!

We are doing good. LO has a few signs that she uses regularly. Last night she was running around the house...her first real run of sorts. It was very cute, and exhausting :-p
QOTD - LO can join or do whatever she wants. I think initially I'd probably put her in dance and a sport. Then eventually she will tell us which (if any) she likes. I grew up dancing until junior high when I turned to sports.
ETA - I forgot swimming. She will definitely be taking swimming lessons.

Five years ago at this time we were sitting in the pre-op area just about ready to go into the OR. In someways it seems like a lifetime and in someways I can still feel that palpable excitement.
The boys were so excited for their birthday last night that Carter didn't get to sleep till after 9:30. I told them next year I won't tell them it is their birthday until that morning when I yell, "Today is your birthday!" LOL. We are heading to their school post-nap with robotic pink cupcakes (yes, they both wanted pink cupcakes and then decided to call it robotic pink. Okay. Then we'll take them home and do presents and hopefully it won't be raining because all of their gifts are outdoor gifts (bicycle, Stomp Rockets, and remote controlled cars.)
QOTD: There will be one non-negotiable lesson and that is swimming. They took swimming lessons all last summer and they will again this summer and perhaps into the fall (I need to register them.) They both did a sports sampler for a year from 3-4y and Grayson took soccer in the fall (Carter didn't want to) and they both took ice skating lessons this winter. We are really leaning at enrolling them in tae kwon do this fall. We've heard from several parents about how well it did at focusing their kids -and Carter needs some focus (talking to him is like talking to a Weeble.) Plus, I think they will like it.
I really don't want to over saturate the kids like my mother did to me (tap, ballet, jazz, gymnastics, violin, horseback riding, tennis, theater, ice skating, swimming...) And until L finishes her dissertation, they need to be enrolled in the same activity for my sake.
QOTD - K and I are at opposite ends of the spectrum. I competed in swimming, dance and gymnastics and played Volleyball in high school, and was really active in theater in high school and college. K still hold a ton of records at UMass where she is in the hall of fame for Basketball and Softball. We (I) plan to put all our kids (boys included) in dance and sports and let them decide when they are older. I think dance teaches kids self-control, manners and good posture - be it Irish Step, tap or ballet, they are all going in once they are old enough to walk Kerri an pick any sport (besides hockey or football) for our kids to participate in to get the team sports advantages that dance does not have. Oh and swimming is a non-issue. The kids will start swimming lessons at 6 months old at the Y 2 blocks from our house. If for no reason but safety.
We joke every time we see a gangly little boy skipping down the street, saying he is the little boy I would birth my little ballerina! I would be *shocked* if any kid that came out of me wanted to do anything more than skip, read and dance.. my sister and I are not at all sports inclined.
This week has been good for us, Iz and A have gotten along really well.
A has been talking back more often and is still on a tattling streak. J and I (and A's Dad) are over it and have been putting our foot/feet? down.
Iz's behaviors are slowly getting better. She's been a smarta$$ lately (getting it from A?) and will smile snidely when she gets in trouble.
Yesterday both girls got a raised voice from me. I was cooking dinner and J called me into the girls room and asked what I smelled...lotion? perfume? No, it was sunblock. They were both white on the exposed parts of their bodies from so much sunblock, hands, arms, feet, and faces. I had given A the bottle to take on a field trip yesterday, it was raining in the morning but I wanted her to have it in case it got sunny. Both girls tried to hide their hands and feet from me when I walked into the room but HELLO!!! white faces. Sigh, time to start locking the sunblock up.
QOTD: I put A in ballet when she was 2, she wasn't the least bit interested so I didn't put her in again. She took karate when she was 5 because J wanted her to try it, she loved it and has been asking to go back. Next month she will start karate again, the sensei is going to watch Iz during the first class to see if she is ready. If Iz isn't ready for karate than I think we are going to try t-ball. Iz needs an activity, she needs to learn to focus because her ADD symptoms are pretty bad.
I will give the kids choices in their activities but will also guide them, no football or hockey at a young age. A didn't take swimming lessons but I think Iz would benefit from them.
I mentioned it yesterday, but B and I are apparently less on the same page than I thought on TTC timeline. I'm frustrated with her and I'm quite certain that she is frustrated with me. I'm trying to sort out how much of this is me thinking about it all the time and forgetting to communicate my thoughts and how much is other things. I am certainly sometimes guilty of taking on family projects (adopting pets, planning trips) with more zeal than her and this seems to be the ultimate one.
As for activities, swimming and piano will be non-negotiable. As younger kids I think we'll encourage trying different sports/art/music and see what they enjoy. I'm sure for a girl we'd encourage girl scouts and for a boy we'd consider boy scouts or a scouting alternative depending on our thoughts at the time about that controversy. I worry about time and money for activities, especially as two working parents. I did dance, swimming, piano, and girlscouts regularly in elementary school. I did bunches of other things for shorter periods of time. DW's family is very musical and she did scouts all the way through and she played some sports as a kid. I'd like to think our kids will be better at being active than we are..we will try to set an example. In high school I did a bunch of nerdy activities and wouldn't mind if the kids followed suit, but we shall see!

Ky is getting three more teeth up on top...fun. Although I will say other than getting a diaper rash (happened when the two bottom ones came in too) and trying to chew on everything in sight (including the dogs...) she is a pretty easy teether. She is also getting brave with regards to letting go and trying to close gaps int he furniture while standing. She still prefers to crawl and will only take a few steps holding my hands (even though she cruises like crazy). Her otrhopedist called me to set up an appointment for July to recheck her hips which made me realize my baby is only a few months from being one!
And another month of a BFN, well not actually a BFN since Ann woke up to AF the day she was going to take the test. I am going after work to pick up another box of OPKs
QOTD: I was allowed to choose activities that interested me nbut I was not involved in much until MS/HS age. I would like her to be involved in more at a younger age. So we might suggest some things to see what she is interested in and go from there.
Jay and I have our consultation next Monday with AICGB. I'm really looking forward to it since I have a ton of questions. We've also purchased 3 months unlimited access to donor profiles. We've decided on a donor so I've been checking like crazy to make sure he isn't sold out. After our appointment next week we will probably go ahead and purchase some swimmers but we're still debating on how many vials to buy.
QOTD:
We definitely will enroll our children in activities. I've never really been into sports but I did do ballet as a child. Jay loves sports and is really into basketball. We will have them do some type of dance and basketball to start then if they want to do other activities instead it will be their choice. I also would like for them to do some sort of artsy activity painting, drawing, pottery or something since I love crafting but we'll see if they are even interested lol. We also plan to start swim lessons at a very young age since neither of us are great swimmers, we think swimming is important.

Today I feel like I am having a bad mommy day. Annie is very much practicing being terrible two today and I need a break. We are on day 4 of rain and I need it to stop so we can both get outside and work of some energy.
Annie will be starting violin and Irish dance at 3. She will also start T ball at 4. She is a kid with a lot of energy and needs to have some places to expend some of it. Also she needs to learn some structure and listening to someone other than Mommy, Mama and Nana before she starts school.

No we are not together anymore the below is an old pic!!!so save all the jail jokes
The girls are getting really excited for our trip to six flags on thursday. It's our first time going on a real vacation together....I feel bad that it's taken 3 years, but better late than never right? That's our big plan for the week, other than that nothing too exciting.
Happy Birthday Grayson, Carter and Little E! N is so excited to turn 5...she is counting down the days lol
QOTD: The girls are both doing swimming lessons this summer. I was going to enroll A in soccer but she was not interested in that. She's been in gymnastics before, maybe we will try that again. Anyone have any activity suggestions for a really uncoordinated 4 year old? N has yet to take a liking to sports...
Five years ago today I was on day 3 of non-progressive back labor at home. By bedtime that day I said if this baby doesn't come out by morning I'm calling the OB and asking her to take her out!!! My water broke at about 2:30am on 5/19, I guess E was listening!
QOTD: I was involved in quite a few activities as a child and more as I got to junior high and high school. Concert band, jazz band, marching band, track, cross country, basketball, scouts, hospital volunteer, etc. I chose these activities and enjoyed all of them.
E has taken a few swimming lessons until we decided the place she was at wasn't really offering the progression and attention E needs. I need to get back on figuring out another place to take her. She has expressed interest in karate, soccer, and dance and I think we will pursue one of these soon. I feel that at this age it's important to not choose too many activities at once, my kid doesn't need to be a superhuman at age 5. Not to mention the fact that as a working parent I don't know how many of these will fit into our schedule. Things are sure different in that regard than when we were kids.
I think C and I have PLANS for these Kiddos. C played soccer, basketball and was in ballet. I played basketball and softball. C plays classical piano and the cello...and DD plays the violin. We all LOVE music and dancing. We also wish we swam more. I cannot wait until they are old enough for T-ball. DD is an EXCELLENT softball player and it was a thrill to coach her when she was young. DD also ran short distance like a gazelle! Plans for the Kiddos? You betcha!
(I do know that I have a tendency to get carried away at games [i.e. I shout from the stands] but I am pretty sure C will make sure that I limit myself.)
Well its been an eventful week! Sprout is still rocky, though today was much better, so i'm hoping hoping hoping that things will start looking up. Daisy is teething and crabby (though nothing close to RB's teething escapades). And RB is in recovery after getting her adenoids removed today (along with a couple other minor procedures) - hopefully we'll be discharged tomorrow morning.
QOTD:
Activities will definitely be encouraged. Anything the kids want is fine by us, though swim lessons are mandatory. The only thing I'm hesitant on is martial arts for Sprout...due to his history, he has an unhealthy obsession with and magnitism towards violence and I dont trust that he will get the real meaning and beauty of the sport (art?) at this age. To him, it would be kicks and punches which is not accepted in our home.
I haven't post for a while. Just lurking with my iPod Touch - which makes it difficult to post on the Bump. I'm thrilled to see lots of new people onboard.. Welcome!
As to the QOTD: I would love my little guy to do both sports and geeky stuff. I play disc golf and I've taken him with me. I hope that is one sport that he will enjoy as he gets older. I do plan to see if he is interested in baseball - which is very popular around here beside soccer. I plan to go with the flow, but if I do see signs that he needs a structured activity such as Aikido or scouting, or something else -- we'll approach it then. Right now I'm just glad we have a healthy kid that loves music, computers, outdoors, and animals.
Forgot to add this: SWIMMING! it is a must around where we live. We live right next to the Sound (Puget Sound) and will have the LB be involved in marine crafts as well. (We used to kayak, so that might be in the pictures again while my partner loves to fish.)
my pregnancy is not ectopic, but the sac is small although it does have a yolk. I'll be going in next Tuesday to see if there's any progress and what's going on. with any luck we'll be able to see a heartbeat, but I'm just trying not to get my hopes up at this point.
QOTW: yes, we will encourage sports and music. I don't really care what as long as he enjoys it, but I do want him to learn how to swim so I will insist on swim lessons.
