Transitioning sippy cups?

We went cold turkey this fall from bottle to sippy cup no problem.

We ended up going with this sippy that had a soft top similar to a nipple.

So now my problem is that he will run around the house with it in his mouth, almost using it like a pacifier.  This is not cool!

He can drink from a sippy cup with a hard top, but refuses!  If I give him a cup like that, he will take a drink it, and then spit it out.

At daycare, they use regular cups without lids during lunch.  Then his sippy cup for the rest of the time.

At home, he will take a sip out of a regular cup, then dumb it out.

Any suggestions?

I agree about the straw one - DS is at a similar age and likes to use DD's (https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4344204).  There's a smaller version of it available, too.  We've bought a few different kinds of straw sippies, and this is the only one that never leaks, is easy for them to open themselves, and is easy for us to clean and reassemble.
