    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?1yr!
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?Better/less busy. Unfortunately B was sick for his 1st bday and I was a bit bummed about that.
    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?Just had our 1yr appt. Kinda bummed because even though he eats a lot and I've been feeding him like crazy, he's only gained less than 1 lb, so he's still only 18lbs 14oz at 1 yr old! Crying He also dropped curves on his height (now ~70 perc), so the pedi asked me to stop nursing first and do solids before nursing...and to add butter into his foods. Not sure if that means we're supposed to start weaning if we're nursing after solids???
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?Sick baby for his 1st bday and worried (again) about his weight/growth...
    (5) When do you workout? Where?N/A...although I should cuz I can't zip up my BM dress that I need to wear for my BFF's wedding in 3 weeks...
    (6) Describe how you got your LO to STTN and how you responded to crying (initial crying and mid-sleep crying). Also, how old was LO when you started your "technique" and/or when he/she successfully STTN?I nurse him to sleep, then move him over to his crib. He generally wakes up for a little bit when I move him and cry but I give him lots of kisses as I lay him down and by the time he's in his crib, he stops crying. Sometimes he'll cry a bit longer but will go to sleep within 5-10 min. In the beginning, it was like 1hr, and I used to go in everytime he cried but then he'd just cry longer, so I had to put in earplugs and let MH monitor him until B embraced the idea of sleeping in his crib. STTN wasn't as difficult for us as napping is. He still has LOTS of issues with napping.
    (7) What's your favorite Etsy store? For kids stuff?I don't shop Etsy that much. But I really loved the Little Sapling blocks I ordered because it puts my worries at ease knowing that B's chewing natural blocks (I even specified that I didn't want any kind of finish on the blocks and they did it...and they look great too!).

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Just had our 1yr appt.

    Wow he's 1 already?!

Bella was still small at her one yr appt (5% for weight), I can't remember her weight but it was under 20 lbs. Our pedi said to add butter to things too but I didn't agree with just adding butter to everything. We do put butter on some things (toast mostly) but that's not a great way to get my DD to gain IMO. I started adding peanut butter to things and that's seemed to help and she loves it! She'll eat it by the spoonful if I let her. I also just had snacks sitting around on our coffee table, like blueberries in a bowl, crackers on a plate, etc. That way she had access to snacks more easily.

My pedi also said "you might want to think about weaning"... I nodded and politely disagreed. It's not like she was nursing tons but she was still nursing so I didn't want to cut that out (not for me but for her, it was good for her and comforting to her). I still nursed her and continued to feed her solids. I just started to offer her solids more than I had before. She's now 23 lbs (still small!). We ended up weaning around 13 1/2 months by both of our choices. I wanted weaning to be natural and not forced.

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Bella is almost 22 months old and Grayson is 9 weeks(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Bella is talking a ton and adding multiple new words every day. Grayson is smiling and now cooing, it's so damn cute!(3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? His 4 month appt and Her 2 yr appt so not for awhile(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Grayson has terrible reflux and it's painful for him, I feel awful! We've done Gripe water which seems to help a little bit. We also tried Mylanta per our pedi recommendation but it gives him diarrhea, poor guy! We just started Zantac today so I'm praying that works. People keep saying "oh maybe it's your milk"... and that frustrates me too. It's like I have bad milk or something, that's what it feels like they are implying...Bella is still fighting diaper rash even after the derm appt, I'm thinking about taking her back... it's so frustrating, I'm even considering sposies because I'm at my wits end with her saying Owie, I hate it! Although I'm not even sure those would help...(5) When do you workout? Where? I just tried 2 gyms and posted on here about help chosing and I've made my decision. I emailed to see if they'll price match or at least come down on the price, either way, I'm joining gym A. (More info in my blog) With 2u2 there's NO way to workout at home and I know they are safe at this place. I want to feel good about me and that's important to make me a good more (also more in my blog about that)(6) Describe how you got your LO to STTN and how you responded to crying (initial crying and mid-sleep crying). Also, how old was LO when you started your "technique" and/or when he/she successfully STTN? What is STTN? j/k although Bella didn't start STTN until she was weaned at about 13.5 months. It was worth it IMO. It wasn't that big of a deal to nurse her once a night and then put her back to bed. Now she sleeps like a dream, call it luck there was no technique. For her, it's VERY important to have a routine each night. We've done the same routine for ages and we'll do that for Grayson too. We also always put her to bed together when we are both home. She really enjoys that :) (7) What's your favorite Etsy store? For kids stuff? I just mostly lurk but don't buy. (8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?

I don't know if this will help, but there's a poster on the Nest who has an underweight child - the daughter is ~3 years old, so not nursing any more but I thought this still may help since she started a blog about helping her child put on weight (in a still nutritious way). Linky.

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? They'll be 13 months old in two days.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm sick at the moment, so not feeling great. Sad As far as the boys go, they're so close to walking...they can stand up from a seated position on their own and then take about 3 steps, so I'm expecting full on walking to happen any day now.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Nothing until 18 months now! Woohoo, we're out of the constant checkups now!

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Ear infections. AGAIN. We have a referral to see a specialist now since our doc suspects they may need grommets. Sad

    (5) When do you workout? Where? HA. HA. HA. Ahem. That would be a no. It's on my to-do list...

    (6) Describe how you got your LO to STTN and how you responded to crying (initial crying and mid-sleep crying). Also, how old was LO when you started your "technique" and/or when he/she successfully STTN? We pretty much just followed their leads. We were careful to make nighttime boring (no lights, no playing, no chatting with them, etc.) so that they'd understand it was sleeptime, but that was pretty much it. They naturally dropped feedings themselves at night, and we could easily tell if they needed their bedtime adjusted to an earlier time because they'd get uber-fussy and overtired.

If they woke up and just fussed a bit, we would leave them for a few minutes to see if they would settle down again, but if they cried we'd get up for them. The only time we've had to do CIO was for naptimes - Will went through a phase where he had decided naps were the devil - but they've always been pretty good at night and only cried if they genuinely needed something. We're lucky that way!

As far as STTN, they started technically sleeping through the night (5-6 hours) at about 8 weeks. Then at 12 weeks they would sleep from about 10pm-7am. That bedtime kept getting earlier, until they reached a 7pm bedtime at around 8 months old. I posted a few days ago that they still wake up once a night for a bottle, but it looks like they've now dropped that of their own accord (although they are currently waking a few times a night because they're sick).

    (7) What's your favorite Etsy store? For kids stuff? I don't shop at etsy - love the stuff, but it's crazeballs expensive to get it shipped here. For kids stuff, I normally buy things at Target or Big W (kinda sorta like Walmart, but not as big and not owned by the same company - but that's basically the target market that Big W fill here). They're the only two big stores in my area aside from grocery stores.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

Libby is 15.5 months old and I am 5w1d pregnant

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Had a gallbladder attack tonight. I haven't had one in a few months. They started before I was PG with Libby but I didn't know what it was. I had one the winter before I got PG with her. And then nothing until I was about 2 weeks PP after she was born and one hit me. I've had them every 1-2 months since her birth but was feeling hopeful when 3-4 months had past and I didn't have any. I  was planning to have my PCA look at it this summer (I think I just have "sludge" and not actual stones because my attacks are fairly mild and only last 15 minutes) and do a gallbladder flush before TTC. Well, now that I am PG I am scared that this is just the beginning. I may have to do a nonfat diet for the duration of the PG which I am willing to do as long as it won't negatively affect my baby. So I am going to to talk to my doc about it. Ugh.

Saw the nurse on Monday to confirm this PG and she told me I need to wean ASAP because I am "stealing nutrients from the baby." It was pretty upsetting and obviously a load of crap. So that bugged me. I've since read LLLI and KellyMom as well as contacted my local LLLI leaders and all have reassured me that in most cases, nursing during PG is perfectly fine. I just have to be sure to get enough calories (not an issue) and vitamins/minerals (also not an issue).  She also changed my EDD from 01.16.11 to 01.17.11 (based on her little wheel/chart they use). I figure what's one day? But I changed my ticker anyway. If this PG is anything like the first, I'll be induced around 38-39 weeks anyway.

    (3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

June 10 will be 1st u/s...hope we see and/or hear the heartbeat. I'll be just over 8 weeks.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

Manging sore nipples when nursing. Libby is still teething and seems to suck harder to create counter pressure. It's gotten to a point where I've had to stop her or even refuse her when she asks, which I've never done before. We've always nursed on demand. So, it's been a challenge, to say the least.

    (5) When do you workout? Where?

I walk daily, either around my neighborhood or on our treadmill. That and chasing after Libby when I am not working. I don't do gyms!

    (6) Describe how you got your LO to STTN and how you responded to crying (initial crying and mid-sleep crying). Also, how old was LO when you started your "technique" and/or when he/she successfully STTN?

Libby started STTN (defined as 5 hours without waking) around 5 months but she's never gone 10-12 hours like some babies do. The longest she's ever slept without waking is 9 hours and that happened once. She's more of a 6-7 hour sleeper, wakes to nurse (or be rocked if my DH or mom go to her because I am OOT) for 20-60 minutes and then goes back down for another 5-6 hours.

We did modified CIO to get her transitioned to her crib before her 1st birthday (we bedshared for 11.5 months) and generally don't let her cry herself to sleep. She sometimes talks to herself or "complains" (fusses/whines, but doesn't sob/cry) for a while before she falls asleep. Lately, I've been able to nurse/rock her for 15-20 minutes at the end of our nighttime routine (bath, lotion, diaper/pjs, books, then cuddle time with lullaby music and the sound machine on) until she's drowsy but awake and then place her in her crib and she goes to sleep on her own. She'll even say "night night mommy" it's so precious! We started the bedtime routine early on...around 3 months old...but I nursed her to sleep in our bed.

    (7) What's your favorite Etsy store? For kids stuff?

I get a lot of Libby's stuff from consignment shops. New stuff usually comes from Carters or Target or Amazon. I have random sellers on Etsy that I've bought specific things from, but in general, I am not a "repeat" shopper for any one seller.

    (8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?

TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?

I nursed B until I was about 10 weeks pregnant with G. B was about 13.5 months old. I ended up weaning bc I was SO sick and couldn't get enough calories for me, let alone the pregnancy and enough to make milk. So my supply dropped and I started doing don't offer, don't refuse. I was sad but at the same time I think B was ready too. She was far too busy to nurse very often at that point :) (sorry I typed all that 1 handed while nursing)

    I know!! Time flies!

Yeah, I remember you had similar issues with Bella and I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt uncomfortable with the "add butter to everything" method. Yeah, my pedi also said I should start "holding back" with nursing to get him to eat more solids and I was like "ummm really?? errr okkaay...". Like you, I also wanted it to be natural and not forced. I like your idea of having snacks around so it's accessible to him whenever he wants it. I'm going to try doing that. Maybe he's just not snacking enough...

This is great! I knew there was some way to do it healthier...I've been trying to do more whole milk yogurt, cheese, cream cheese with more meat & whole wheat grains but pedi was pretty much telling me to feed him poorly IMO (she even said I should give him deep-fried foods and I'm thinking, REALLY?!?). Really helpful to have more ideas and lists of foods like the blog has. Thanks for the link!

I felt like our pedi was telling us the same thing... um NO we are not feeding our daughter deep fried foods in fat with extra butter to get her to gain weight! WTF! It's not like we are off the growth curve, she's just on the low end and always has been. We do tons of cheese and yogurt at our house. Bella is not a fan of meat or even beans really, we've tried. I just try to be sure to offer her plenty of variety. Oh and I have discovered that she loves casseroles (turkey tettrazini and tuna casserole), so I save sour cream containers and when we have that I freeze a couple of containers for her for later. The never ending "buffet" on our coffee table has helped Bella maintain her weight IMO. I think she's so active too so that's another reason she doesn't gain much. She must have her daddy's metabolism!

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?Henry will be 10 months this weekend!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Ugh!  Sick again!  He's got Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease.  He's got blisters on the back of his throat, and is having a hard time eating (his favorite thing!).  He spiked a 102.7 temp yesterday, but seems to be doing better so far today.

    (3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Next appt. not until 12 months.  In other news, his Bubbie and Poppy are coming from CA tomorrow, so Mama and Daddy get to go out to dinner Saturday night!  Yay!

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

Guilt over sick baby.  I knew he wasn't feeling great yesterday morning, but I thought he was just crabby and woke up on the wrong side of the bed, so I sent him to school.  They called an hour later letting me know his 102.7 temp.  I felt terrible that I didn't even check his temp before I sent him.

    (5) When do you workout? Where?

I really don't, but we walk a lot.  We do have an elliptical that we bought before Henry was born, assuming my gym days were over.  I've used it all of three times so far.  I plan to use it a lot more this summer (and walk a lot more, too).

    (6) Describe how you got your LO to STTN and how you responded to crying (initial crying and mid-sleep crying). Also, how old was LO when you started your "technique" and/or when he/she successfully STTN?

He started sleeping 6-7 hours at a time around 4-5 months.  I think having a bedtime routine really helped, as well as him taking in more calories during the day.  We were still doing a nighttime feed around 2am until he was about 7 months, when he sort of dropped it naturally.  At that time he slept straight through until 4-5am, when I wouldn't feed him (it seemed to me that he wasn't hungry, but lonely), but I would pull him in to bed with me until 6-7am, and he'd fall right back asleep.  Just recently (just before 9 months), he occasionally didn't even wake then, and slept straight through until 6am.  After he did that naturally about three times, I stopped going to him if he did wake at 4-5am.  Now he does occasionally wake at around 5am, but I don't go to him (unless he's totally hysterical, which means he's sick or something else is wrong) until 6am.  He usually just fusses a few minutes and lies himself back down to sleep a little more.

    (7) What's your favorite Etsy store? For kids stuff?

I'm not really a serial shopper at certain stores, but I have recently bought a few birthday items from various shops.   haven't received anything yet, so no reviews, but we'll see!

awww g has reflux? d has a mild reflux and even that is rough at times. do you have him sleeping on an incline? we have those universal crib wedges and it seems to help him with the spit up when sleeping. we also keep him upright for 10-20 minutes after eatings and we make sure to burp him for at least 5 minutes. hahahah

but i hear ya, sometimes when he eats, he screams like it's hurting him. we had to keep a journal of his behavior and realized it wasn't as often as it felt like. but still.

so since g has terrible reflux i totally feel your pain! =/

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 4 mo. check up

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? just adjusting from the surgery. the monitors really affected me and my ptsd so i had to take some time to get over that all over again. D has been a little more fussier than normal since last week, but honestly, it feels good to not have to worry about him crying. i've found myself saying "well, you have no more hernias, i can let you cry a little longer." hahah i hope that's not mean.

Where? not working out yet. but i hope to re-start my 30 day shred soon. since i know i do wan tto try for another LO in about 12-18 months, i want to prepare my body for that. i know that what i do won't affect the fact that i'll be high risk again, but i should do whatever i can to make my body in the best shape possible for that.

    (6) Describe how you got your LO to STTN and how you responded to crying (initial crying and mid-sleep crying). Also, how old was LO when you started your "technique" and/or when he/she successfully STTN?

D has slept 5 hours before, but it's not a regular thing yet. at night he goes about 4 max. i will savor when that day comes... hahaha

i like how many of you guys just followed their cues. takes the pressure off to do it by a certain time.

    (7) What's your favorite Etsy store? For kids stuff?

    (8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?

    (

i never thought i would bedshare... but we do a modified version! =) i actually get more deep sleep that way. we have D sleep on our chaise sofa with MH from 8-midnight. then when he wakes for his night time feeding, we move D to his pack n play. then after the 5/6 o'clock feeding, MH goes to work and i move D into the bed with me so we can sleep longer.

there are nights when i'm 'just too tired to put him to sleep and i put him in bed with me earlier and we both fall asleep faster & longer. he's started doing this thing where he rocks himself while he's swaddled until his forehead is touching my forehead. and then he falls asleep that way. hahaha

i've started napping him in his crib in the nursery to get him ready for the move. but i wasn't sure when to do the move. i'm not sure i'm ready to get up and go to the other room in the MOTN! hahahah

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Grayson has terrible reflux and it's painful for him, I feel awful! We've done Gripe water which seems to help a little bit. We also tried Mylanta per our pedi recommendation but it gives him diarrhea, poor guy! We just started Zantac today so I'm praying that works. People keep saying "oh maybe it's your milk"... and that frustrates me too. It's like I have bad milk or something, that's what it feels like they are implying...

awww g has reflux? d has a mild reflux and even that is rough at times. do you have him sleeping on an incline? we have those universal crib wedges and it seems to help him with the spit up when sleeping. we also keep him upright for 10-20 minutes after eatings and we make sure to burp him for at least 5 minutes. hahahah

but i hear ya, sometimes when he eats, he screams like it's hurting him. we had to keep a journal of his behavior and realized it wasn't as often as it felt like. but still.

so since g has terrible reflux i totally feel your pain! =/

Libby had a lot of gas pains when she was under 4 months old, mainly due to my oversupply and foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. We got Colic Calm and it was like a miracle in a bottle. Seriously, we could give it to her and within a minute she stopped screaming. It's a little messy and startling to see in your LO's mouth (it's black because it's made from vegetable charcoal), but I totally swear by it. One bottle lasted us her first 6 months.

It's all natural (unlike Mylicon drops) and it works like a charm every time!

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 6.5 months

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? eh, feeling okay.  a bit blah about work, trying to get myself motivated.  as for milestones, E has a tooth now!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 9 month appt

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? teething pains one night, he was crying every 30-45 min, so we gave him some tylenol and he slept better.  the other challenge is his super-early wake-ups...he sleeps early (5:30 normally, but could be as early as 4:30 when he's napped poorly), and he's started getting up by 5:30 every morning - sometimes 4:30!  but last night, he fell asleep before 4:30, woke at 6 to eat, went back down at 6:45p, and slept past 7a (after eating at 4) - i felt so much better!  sadly, i don't think we'll get a repeat performance tomorrow morning.  I can't tell if he's overtired or no longer needing 3 naps Stick out tongue

    (5) When do you workout? Where? work out?

    (6) Describe how you got your LO to STTN and how you responded to crying (initial crying and mid-sleep crying). Also, how old was LO when you started your "technique" and/or when he/she successfully STTN?

hrm, it's definitely changed over time. i went back to look in our blog, and E was still waking up 2-3 times a night when he hit 3 months, not sure when he first hit 5 hours straight.  he's down to 1 feed/night now, 8-10 hours after he falls asleep.  he's STTentireN twice.  I'll keep feeding him once/night until he decides he doesn't want it anymore.  initially, i did try soothing him back to sleep w/o nursing when i noticed he consistently wasn't eating much at a specific time, but it tended to backfire - he'd wake up more frequent the rest of the night, or be fussier the next day.  ultimately, he dropped each MOTN feed when he was ready.

initially, he slept on us, for i don't know, several weeks!  then he slept in our bed.  we used to sit next to him and soothe him, sometimes rub his belly, until he fell asleep.  if he woke up in the MOTN, we'd soothe him.  sometime after we started putting him down in his crib (after 4 months), i transitioned to just sitting there, then not sitting there at all.  he sometimes fusses a little, but will go to sleep on his own for both naps and night.  we only go in during MOTN fusses when he's awake and crying, which now only happens when he needs to eat.  he still often cries during each sleep cycle transition though, but he's not actually awake, and we've found it's best if we just let him work through it himself.  (when does the still asleep crying stop?  it's hard to listen to sometimes, when it takes him a good like, 5 min to get over it! Sad

    (7) What's your favorite Etsy store? For kids stuff?  don't have a favorite, i try not to look so i'm not tempted to buy. Stick out tongue  pretty much everything we do buy comes from amazon or target
