A lot of those are ethnic names, not horrors.

    >> Ihsan is Arabic (charity) and Turkish (kindness).

    >> Gerda is German/Dutch/Scandinavian.

    >> Thaddeus is a Biblical name. From Tadda??? (Thaddaios), the Greek form of the Aramaic name Thaddai. It is possibly derived from a word meaning "heart", but it may in fact be an Aramaic form of a Greek name such as Theodoros (see THEODORE). In the Gospel of Matthew Thaddaeus is listed as one of the twelve apostles, though elsewhere in the New Testament his name is omitted and Jude's appears instead. It is likely that the two names refer to the same person.

    >> Alon is Hebrew, meaning "oak tree."

    >> Doyle is Irish. From an Irish surname which was derived from ? Dubhghaill meaning "descendent of Dubhghall". The name Dubhghall means "dark stranger" in Gaelic. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was the author of the Sherlock Holmes mystery stories.

    >> Hertha is German (HER-tah). Form of NERTHUS. The spelling change from N to H resulted from a misreading of Tacitus's text.

    >> Ovis is a name in history. From the Roman family name Ovidius, which was possibly derived from Latin ovis "a sheep". Alternatively, it could have a Sabellic origin. Publius Ovidius Naso, better known as Ovid, was a 1st-century BC Roman poet who often wrote on the subjects of love and mythology. He was sent into exile by emperor Augustus for no apparent reason.

    >> Amaryllis is from literature. Derived from Greek a?a??ss? (amarysso) "to sparkle." This was the name of a heroine in Virgil's epic poem 'Eclogues'. The amaryllis flower is named for her.

    >> Wat is English ? Medieval short form of Walter.

    >> Ildefonso is Spanish. Spanish form of the Visigothic name Hildefons, which meant "battle ready", derived from the Germanic elements hild "battle" and funs "ready". This was the name of a 7th-century saint, an archbishop of Toledo.

    >> Candida is Late Roman. Late Latin name derived from candidus meaning "white." This was the name of several early saints, including a woman supposedly healed by Saint Peter. As an English name, it came into use after George Bernard Shaw's play 'Candida' (1898).

    >> Cindel is listed as Spanish (rare?user submited).

This. And also wanted to add that Wenceslao is probably an ethnic (guessing Polish, Czech?) spelling of Wenceslas (as in the legend of "Good King Wenceslas").

  • I actually really like Thaddeus...or Thad for short. Maybe because I grew up knowing several so it's not such a blah or uncommon name to me.

  • May I ask a sincere question? How come you could capitalize "FB" but nothing else in the rest of your post? I'm sorry, but it drove me nuts.

This.  I don't mind Thaddeus.  Not sure I would use it but it's a fine name.
