Depending on what size. I found the pattern that I have it works on XS and S. Or a knit you might be able to stretch a little... but, I think you need at least 20 x 20.

This. Although I think some patters can be modified to make the wings a little shorter and it might work.
Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless
You could do some sort of trim or seamed like the DD's are. Different front and back like things. Then you could get away with an expensive fat quarter and maybe a cheaper trim fabric?

Oh good idea thanks!

For most WAHMs, no. 2 FQs is enough for a halfsie. Most WAHMs require about 3/4 yard, so I would just get a full yard since most places sell it in 1/2 yard increments.

They require 3/4 yard for ONE diaper? Really? Does that include the lining, or just the outer fabric?
I bought some FQ's today, and I just checked: They fit my medium Darling Diapers pattern with room to spare, and they are just a tiny bit short on the wings for my medium Very Baby pattern. (VB's have pretty long wings, and I think they could easily be shortened.) But the FQ was NOT preshrunk, so it's possible that those patterns won't fit once it is shrunk...

It totally depends on the diaper maker. There are plenty of WAHMs that can use a fat quarter, which is typically 18" x 21". There are some brands though, like B4 and TT that are larger and require more like 21" x 21". There is no standard answer to your question - it depends on the width of the bolt and the size of the pattern.

hmmm okay well I definately want a OS so I guess I need more. poop.

Actually, I haven't had any WAHM need 3/4 of a yard. You can get two 20 x 20 diaper cuts (which is what many need) out of a 1/2 yard.
You can get more if you seam at the crotch.

Yeah, that is more like what I'd expect! Although if they really need a 20x20, half a yard is only 18"
Out of curiousity, what do they do with the second diaper cut? Do you get it back? Do you have to buy two diapers?

They send it back with your diaper typically. :-)
Some will also make into a shirt (like Star Baby Designs) depending on how much you have leftover.
