WW Ladies...I Have Questions...

So DH and I did WW a few years back. It was with the old point system. I hear there is a new Points plus Program? Is it totally different now. I cannot really justify paying for meetings at this point BUT we would like to do the program at home. Do you think we can just do it the old way..or is the new way supposed to be better?

TIA

Re: WW Ladies...I Have Questions...

  • Whether you can do the old system on your own is really dependent on how you'll track points and where you'll get points values from.  If you want to use the iPhone/Droid apps for counting, then you have to be on WW system, which is ONLY the new PointsPlus system (that's the main reason I switched and will do PointsPlus when I go back on it...I learned that with my iPhone, I have greater success tracking than any other tracking method...so it's worth it to me).  If you have access to points values of foods (rather than pointsplus values, I mean), and have a non-ww affilliated way to track them, and a way to calculate your daily points, etc without weight watchers, then the old way could work fine.

The main difference with the old and the new is that the new promotes healthier choices than the old did.  Example - on the old, a glass of wine = 2 pts...on the new, a glass of wine = 4 pts.  On the old, a sandwich thin = 1 pt...on the new, a sandwich thin = 4 pts.  On the old, most fruit was about 2 pts/serving...on the new, mostly ALL fruit = 0 pts.  Most things have a lot more points, but fruit is a HUGE awesome 0 pt bonus.  Processed foods get much higher points.  It really promotes healthier lifestyle, whole foods, etc.  You also get a lot more daily points on the new, and a lot more weekly points too (so, yes you can still have your wine...but b/c it's empty calories, it costs you more...but you also "get" more points...so it's not as painful as you might think).

Anyway, I know I'm rambling...but those are my experiences.  I wouldn't completely nix the idea of doing the old system at all...just realize you might start having a more difficult time finding Points values for foods as they phase Points out completely, and continue to bring in PointsPlus as their only system.  Good luck!

  • Thanks for all that info. I do still have my old point calculator....so I could use that. Also I would always look  up dwlz.com. I havent been on there in a long time...not sure if it still exists. Guess I should do some checking.

  • I use the old points because it worked for me and I still have all my stuff.  I don't access anything online anymore, so I don't get the points confused.
  • Stef gave you some good advice.  I'll tell you my perspective.

I LOVE the new system.  It's very, very different to me.  Having the app on my iPod is amazing and makes it very, very easy.

Like you, C, I had a lot of success in the old days and was a dwlZI.com freak- OMG Dottie!   I'll have to go see if she's still around.

I know I tried on my own and just went up and down.  It wasn't til I bit the bullet and started paying it actually clicked for me.  Anyway you could start out and maybe do the first month so you can get used to it and get focues and then move on to doing it on your own.  I really think it'd be worth it.

Let me know if you want a partner to go to a meeting with you, I'll do it in a heartbeat!!

I also think the online only access is like $14 a month or something.  something to think about as well....
