Help me spend $1000 (from Flex Spending Account)

We had my employer pull $1000 pre-tax for our flexible spending account this year. Unfortunately (well, I guess it should be "fortunately") we haven't had many dr visits, copays, etc. to use it on and have used less than $150. What would you suggest we spend it on???

  • If you haven't been to the dentist, then go! :)

New sunglasses from the eye doctor!

  • OTC Medicine for your family

Are you considering getting an IUD anytime soon? It would be worth doing this year if you want one anyway.

Make appts with any specialists you need to see - dermatologist to do a body scan for moles, cardiologist if there is any need, eye doctor etc.

I think a breast pump applies.... maybe if you need one now or want one for a future baby?

Healthcare reform changed the rules for what you can buy OTC with Flex dollars.

     New glasses/contacts or corrective surgery

    Dental or orthodontia (if needed)

Dermotology is covered:  Go get some facials or "skin treatments"

  • Do you have any day care expenses?  Don't those count?

My FSAs are separate, one for daycare & one for healthcare.  They aren't interchangeable.  I'm guessing this is how hers is set up.

  • Just FYI, massages don't count without a prescription from the doctor. OTC aren't covered anymore is my understanding.

My favorite way to use FSA is with eyeglasses/sunglasses and drugstore.com FSA store.

Yes, mine is the same as Emily's. We have a daycare expense account and a healthcare FSA.
