? for bf-ing gurus

I'm a little over 36 weeks pregnant and I got knocked on my a$$ with a vicious cold this weekend. After suffering through a few sleepless nights with post-nasal drip and a cough that hurts my ribs, I started taking pseudoephedrine this morning, per my OB nurse's recommendation.

Now I'm worrying about the possibility that if I were to go into labor this next week my milk wouldn't come in properly due to the pseudoephedrine, which I know women take to dry up their supply when weaning.

Is this worry just stupid?

P.S. I tried the all natural route first - neti pot, steam with thyme herbs, and slippery elm lozenges. They worked for sh!t.

  • I don't think you should worry about it.  The removal of the placenta is what triggers your body to know it needs to make milk. Taking pseudoephedrine now shouldn't interfere w/ milk production later.  And even then it is usually at least a couple days (or more) before the milk comes in.  If you're still taking it when you go into labor, I'd stop then.

  • Ditto previous poster. Also if it makes you feel any better I took that near the end of my pregnancy too, and had an ample supply :)

  • Right. Placenta-removal. Right. My mind is just casting about to find things to worry about in these final weeks.

    Thanks!
