So first of all, as I'm typing this I CANNOT believe that my sweet MJD will be 1 next month! Where the h - e double hockey sticks has time gone!
But as time is quickly approaching, I'm trying to get party plans underway, and I'd love some ideas and suggestions:
1) DH is stuck on a 'theme' for Matthew's party, but I'm of the mindset at this age he doesn't have a preference for anything, so I was thinking just a bbq at the house, some balloons, family etc. What 1st party 'themes' have ya'll done or seen?
2) What time would you recommend? It will be on a Saturday and I would like Matthew in good spirits, so I was planning for late afternoon, since he will more than likely nap at 1ish. I just don't want to suck up people's Saturday afternoons, but at the same time I figured if they feel it does, they won't come
3) I've been looking on Esty for cute 1st b-day t-shirts, any other recommended websites?
4) Can anyone recommend a cookie place? I'd like to have cookie favors, maybe in the shape of trucks, balloons, or something.
TIA! I know many of you have been down this road
Re: 1st Birthday Party ?'s
1. I don't think you "need" a theme for any party, but it can be fun if it's something you want to do. We did a sock monkey theme, but there are tons of great ideas out there like a candy shoppe theme, cars themes, etc. Check out sites like tomkatstudio if you want ideas.
2. We did ours at 4pm because that was after most of the kids would be up from their naps. Do whatever time you think will work best for your DS because you want him to be in a good mood.
3. We used Etsy seller zoeysattic.
4. Kelly Kakes in Roswell will do custom sugar cookies for you. You can also find a bunch of places on Etsy that will do them and ship.
Good luck and have fun!

I think you can go either way with a 1st birthday party with a theme or not...for Jack's it was just a lot of balloons and primary colors, no theme. For Ethan's I did a cupcake theme, and for Lauren I may do some sort of "garden/flowers" theme. Basically something generic for the 1st, since they truly aren't into anything yet.
I think a farmyard, puppy, or circus theme could be really cute for a boys 1st birthday if you do want a theme, and Dimpleprints on Etsy has TONS of cute party packages. They send a whole bunch of things to decorate with (cupcake toppers, banners, favor tags, food labels, etc, that you print and assemble yourself, as well as a personalized invitation), and you can supplement with solid colored paper products. Look through what they have available, some great ideas!
Themes are fun but not required on 1st birthdays. It's mostly for the parents
We did a sweet shoppe party for my daughter and used this etsy seller. She was awesome to work with and have nice themes that are not too "themey" lol.

For cookies, I made our own cookie. It was easy to make. To be lam pointed me to this website for tutorials.

Thanks a bunch ladies! These are all great ideas and I think getting DH and I on the right planning path!
Our Blog
1.) I don't think you NEED a theme, but we did a simple turtle theme with blue and green colors.
2.) We did 2 or 3pm I think, well after the other babies first/only nap
3.) You can create a "First Birthday" theme/logo on publisher/word/ppt and use iron on paper to create you're own. Easy and inexpensive if you are the creative type. This is what I did for Max's shirt (which was actually a onsie).
4.) Not sure about a cookie place, but I'm sure Etsy has a bunch.
GL, and have fun planning!
You definitely don't have to have a theme but I think it helps coordinate things. We did a bouncy ball party this year for Oliver.
We chose 4pm since I knew most kids nap around lunchtime.
We loved our birthday shirt this year: https://tinyurl.com/3go2amp
I don't know anything about cookies but we did mini cupcakes and they were fab! Good luck!!
