Nanny pay for 3 kids?

What do you think would be acceptable pay to a nanny for 3 days per week for 3 kids (7-5)? Or for just the twins?

  • I think this will really vary by where you live.  Did you check care.com?  I think in the Dallas area I will be paying at least $20 p/h for a nanny.

  • im in saint louis and one girl told us she charges $17.50/hour

    another girl told us $20/hour

and a third girl told us $30/hour (she also told us what holidays she would be off and that we would still pay her on those holidays, that she will be taking a two week vacation and we will pay her while on vacation, that she is a mommy's helper not a nanny and if she is ever left alone with any of the children her pay is increassed. we didnt click with her so needless to say she was not the chosen one :) )

Holy mother that's a lot of $. I am in the Chicago burbs. I'm worried about someone being able to watch a 2 year old and 3 months old twins. Maybe I will have to split them up??  Luckily I only work 3 days per week.

I will definitely be checking out sittercity and care.com when we get bit further along.

we are having the twins thursday (holy cricky im nervous). and dd turns 2 in june. a couple of the girls on the sites charge by age of children. and we interview everyone in person and dont just go by their profile. (im sure lots of people do, but even when someone seems great on paper.... i want to make sure our personalities click)

WOW! Who does she think she is. And she's not even watching the kids on her own for that price! For $30 an hour, you could probably hire Super Nanny! :-)

I'm in Michigan and just for the 2 of ours, we pay $12/hr. Plus she does a lot of light housework too, which is a bonus to me!  A lot of nannies do this though, so it's not uncommon.

  • (I nanny 9-9 on Monday's for my triplet nephews)

I think it varies by location, age, and what you want out of a nanny. When the boys were a couple of months old my entire job consisted of juggling bottles/diapers and making sure that no one fell off of anything. Now that they're 2, SIL wants a more preschool like experience (Which I'm slowly realizing I'm really not qualified to give especially if I'm only there once a week- there's no consistency in activities over a week).

I get 100$ a day- which is more of a family rate and was set when they were 4 months old- I'm fairly sure that the non-family day care people (It started out family 3 days a week and helpers 2. Now I'm the last family member still regularly sitting) are charging more.

If you just want someone to make sure they don't go hungry, get regular diaper changes, and who can supervise/play with them and read them books- that's going to require much less in the way of qualifications. If you want someone who can teach them letters and numbers (when it gets to that point for the oldest), come up with learning style crafts to do daily, and take them to the park (which can be insanely difficult with all three mobile)- that's a very different set of qualifications and probably a different (and higher) pay rate.
