Washington Babies

I hope I'm not jinxing anything RE midwife/OB recs

If this pregnancy sticks, I'll need a midwife and hospital.

I delivered at Swedish on the hill last time and I want to either do Overlake or the new Swedish in Issaquah this time (if they even do midwife births.)  Anyone have a recomendation for the Eastside?  I'd also maybe consider a birth center but I need to get DH on board with that.

 Thanks!

  • Ask Leanne the place she went sounds like a resort!!! I think it was a birth center. I want to have another baby just to have a candle lit for me :)

  • Overlake doesn't have any practicing midwives. I don't have any recs for the new Swedish campus but I believe they do have a midwife practice there.
  • Puget Sound Birth Center. LOVE LOVE them! I had both babies there. They are in Kirkland.

  • Midwives at Center for Women's Health at Evergreen.  I loved it there.  Lots of people on the board have used them.  Evergreen is only really about 5 minutes further than Overlake.

I will probably still go back to Evergreen even after Swedish Issaquah opens although I will have to at least look at their options.  Will birth/delivery be open by your due date?

    Best of luck this week.

  • I delivered at swedish with Cruz and at overlake with Jagger.  I LOVE overlake!  My nurses rocked and the whole experience was absolutely 100% better than my first at swedish with Cruz.  I also love love love my OB.  I went to Dr Kristin Graham at overlake ob/gyn. She was perfect for a 2nd pregnancy because she is very no nonsense and straight to the point.  I was seeing Dr Robin de Regt at eastside maternal fetal medicine for my specialist and she worked great with dr Graham.

I really loved Evergreen too; I saw the midwives also.  FWIW when we shared birth stories at parent-baby class I was NOT impressed with what the moms who delivered at Overlake had to say.  They all had something negative with their experience.  For me, EVG's strong pro-breastfeeding support and standard rooming-in policy was very important since I was very opposed to doing formula unless medically necessary and did NOT want my baby going to a nursery.  The nurses were awesome, the OB who did my C was great, and all the midwives were wonderful.  We'll definitely go back there for baby #2. :)  Good luck with whatever you decide, S!

  • I really didn't like Overlake.  It doesn't hold a candle to Swedish.  I can give you specifics if you want, but my delivery at Swedish was a FAR superior experience to my delivery at Overlake.

  • We had a great experience at Puget Sound Birth Center as well, though we used a midwife closer to home.

Puget Sound Birth Center- I agree that it's AMAZING!! I had the most wonderful birth there. I can't wait to get pregnant again just to go back. They are like family at the end of it all. Getting in the tub and having Gracie was so zen and going home after just 2 hours was awesome too. We used the Lake Washington Midwives. Good luck to you!!!! Sticky Baby Dust your way!

  • Hmmm, now I'm not sure what to do!

I called the new Swedish and L&D will be open by September for sure so it will be open in time.  I called the Swedish Midwives in Ballard to see if they had any ideas if they would have a midwife practice there and no one knew the answer.  I think I'll go to the grand opening event and try to get some information.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!
