s/o s/o naps: DD still has trouble napping

I finally just wrote out a schedule for A with nap times, feeding times and play times.  Daycare follows it and sometimes, like today, A still just has a lot of trouble napping.  Whether its too many distractions or whatever, I don't know.  I think they are working with her but they'll get her down and she won't stay asleep.  This morning by 12:30 she'd taken one 40 minute nap.  I imagine when I go to pick her up she'll have taken 1 more 30 minute nap.

Can someone calm my fears and tell me that she's going to be ok with this little sleep?  On these days, I generally put her down for the night at 6:30 or 7 to make up the sleep.  She's exhausted by that time anyway.  But I keep reading in sleep books that napping is essential for good health, etc., and I can't shake the feeling that she's going to end up unhealthy because she can't nap.  Make me feel better, por favor.

Kate is a delightful, healthy child and I don't think she slept more than 3 hours in a row until she was almost 10 months old.  Ever.  Generally speaking, she never slept more than an hour at any given time.  She also had many many days where she never napped more than 30 minutes total for the day.  Those sleep books made me crazy.

Thank you so much.  Thank you thank you thank you.  Seriously.  This makes me feel so much better.

  • I know the feeling - but yes, she'll be fine. Baby N doesn't nap as long at school as she does at home.  But she does nap.  And she is happy and healthy. And it gets better as they get a bit older and used to daycare and when they can all nap around the same time.

No problem!  I remember how hard it was to the "that mom" whose kid wouldn't sleep.  When she needs more sleep she'll let you know.  :)

  • YEP, she is definitely going to be a-ok!  V is a little party animal at school and at that age she was probably taking similar naps.  Does she sleep at night ok?

  • Those books say that so you'll stress the eff out about sleep and buy more books.  She'll be great.  She's getting some day sleep, and she gets plenty of night sleep.  Her naps will probably get better as she gets older.

Seriously, don't worry.  My teen mom didn't even know that I needed naps and let me stay up and watch soap operas instead.  I'm coo!

She's a champ at night.  From 6:30 - 6:30 on daycare days (when naps are short) and from 7:30-6:30 on weekends.  She naps great at home, too.

My daughter was the same way.  She will be fine.  Our experience was that she napped better in the toddler room since they are all asleep at the same time, less stimulation. I'd take having a kid that sleeps through the night over a long napper any day.  If she isn't cranky, and not getting sick a lot, then don't worry about it.

Definitely do not worry.  She's making up for that sleep at night - she just wants to hang out during the day - having too much fun!!
