Hormone Gurus (and IUD people)

I had my IUD placed in January 2010.   Spotted for a while off and on, then became regular about April or so of last year.   Period about every 25ish days.

Now, for the 6-9 weeks, I have been having almost a full blown (hahaha) period almost every other week.   I'm wondering if this could be part of my hot messiness.

I tried to feel for my strings (when not on my period, TYVM), and couldn't find them.  I meant to try to check again this weekend, but between the funny farm and hysterical crying, didn't get a chance to shove my fingers up there and dig around in a more private location.

I'm rambling, but... is it possible for the two to be correlated?   If I am having a period that often, is it likely to be messing with my hormones?  I mean, I doubt I doubt that is a typical period/cycle (with bleeding that often and IUD), so could it be hormonal related?

I am having a real period, the first in a long time.  I scheduled an appt. today with my OB/GYN, since I haven't had my annual girl check up since Nov. '09.  I really want to make sure it's still in place.

I know.  I've never tried to feel for the strings on my own, and I'm not about to start now.  I wish I didn't have the IUD horror stories in my head...

  • I never check my own strings. I went back a month after it was first put in and have never gone digging for them again.

(giggle, but I know it's there b/c MH has been cut by them before Stick out tongue)

Yeah...as a iud horror story myself, I would go get it checked for peace of mind. If you have mirena I've heard lots of wacky hormone stuff so it wouldn't be suprising.

  • I do periodically check..after a few weeks they kind of lay flat against the cervix, so it's more like feeling your cervix for a "Thread" laying along the surface, not like loose ends flapping about.
