Cloth Diapering

For those that use Tide...

What type of water do you have?  We have crazy hard well water and have been using Hard Rock....it's just not cutting it.  I want to make the switch to Tide but am deathly afraid to make matters worse haha.

Re: For those that use Tide...

  • I use regular tide AND calgon....you should try it.  we have very hard water too and by adding the calgon (which is a water softner) it makes the diapers amazingly clean everytime.  It can be found in the laundry section near the bleach and fabric softners.

Also if you need to, maybe do a strip prior to switching so you get rid of the hard rock build up if there is any.

How much Tide/Calgon do you use?  I'm thinking of swtiching back but last time I got horrible buildup from Tide....I'm hoping with the calgon I can use less detergent and avoid the buildup again.

I don't measure the Calgon but I think it says a quarter cup, I measure the first time but now just pour what I think it is.  as for the tide I use the minimum level.

CDing has taught me that I have always used way too much soap....I would always fill the cup with soap when that was obviously too much

Thanks for the tip!  Yeah I was using WAY too much Tide the first go around...learned my lesson on that one!  I just started using Calgon.....and usually do 1/2 a cap, maybe I will try less and see how it goes.  Do you put it in the wash only?  I've been doing the prewash/rinse and the wash with detergent.
