My SIL is in preterm with her twins right now. My brother is beside himself. He's asking me to look up drug risks. Can anyone help? She's 26 weeks and change. I think they did the steroid already. Baby A's water has broken (di/di twins). They want to start antibiotics Clindomycin and azithromycin and probably start the nifedipine (Procardia). Can anyone speak to the risks? he's afraid of hurting the twins but I keep telling him at this stage survival is the bigger concern.

Re: PPROM with baby A
I'm so sorry, how scary for them. I went into PTL at 25 weeks and they were able to stop it with procardia and magnesium sulphate. I know there are risks associated with both meds but the risks of premature birth at 26 weeks far, far outweigh the risks of the meds.
I do know that when I was in the hospital on the antepartum floor there were a few women who had PPROM and who were holding on for weeks and months, so there is hope.
Good luck to them.
They had to give me the steriod shots and procardia starting at 25.5 weeks (27 weeks now) to stop labor and it so far has calmed down the contractions. My water didn't break but the drugs seem to be working and at this point I will take anything to give them more time to develop. Best wishes for her and the babies, I know this is incredibly scary!
