So Charlie went to his first Chuck-E-Cheese birthday party yesterday. Amazing how that place is pretty much unchanged 25 years since I went!
Anyway, Charlie had to go potty, so we went, and then he ran back to the play area and jumped in a car with one of his buddies, Claire. Claire's dad was standing next to the car, too, and he leaned over, across Charlie, to put a token in. Then he looked up at me with a really alarmed look on his face and said "wow, his breathing sounds really rough!" I didn't really know what to say, so I just said that I hadn't noticed. Then he told me that his 5-year-old has asthma and that's what it sounded like at first, and that I should really get him to the pedi to have it checked out.
I asked husband Charlie when I got home, and he said that he had noticed it every once in a while, too. I asked his teacher this morning, and she said she hadn't noticed. I had (have?) asthma, but I didn't develop it until we moved here when I was a teenager. Stupid Ohio Valley
So I'm leaning toward taking him to the pedi. Good idea, better safe that sorry, etc. etc., right?

Re: WWYD: asthma comment from another parent
If you have noticed it when he gets really active, excited, etc. yeah, go ahead and get it checked out. Better to know for sure!
Both of my brothers had asthma growing up and my one brother was actually a college athlete (running) but had to use his inhaler regularly. I actually have asthma, but it only acts up when pregnant (I didn't even get diagnosed until a year ago when I was pregnant with C!).
The test doesn't hurt him! They may test for allergies, though, which is uncomfy but not painful!
Then again, excited kids run fast and get out of breathe all the time! If you prefer try and keep an eye out for anytime he gets active and try to note how hard he breathes then?? Maybe mention at his next checkup.
If it's not something that you noticed, or that seems alarming to you, I would probably wait until his next check-up to bring it up. Especially since it hasn't seemed to be an issue at daycare either.
If it's something that will bother you until you get it checked out, I would take him to the pedi.
I would definitely take him. Asthma can be pretty serious stuff if you don't have the methods in place to treat it, but I'm sure you know that from growing up with it.
Keep us posted on what you find out about Charlie.
