VBAC

Any other resources than ICAN

I was on my area's ICAN site today, and since my hospital is sort of small, the VBAC column on the charts is an asterisk, so I know the number is low, but I am not sure how low.  I was wondering if anyone knows any other resources I could use?

Also, it turns out my hospital is really high on the amount of c sections performed.  Not likely my odds right now.  My ob did tell me that if I do get pregnant, that I am about the best candidate for vbac as possible, but again, the numbers scare me.

  • It depends on where you live, but some states and hospitals are listed on the Unnecesarean blog - https://www.theunnecesarean.com/blog/2010/9/1/cesarean-rate-posts-on-the-unnecesarean.html

In my opinion, the most important variable is a provider that believes in you 100% and is a true VBAC proponent.  If you've got that, your odds are likely much better.  That said, it is good to know what is typical at the birth place you plan to deliver in one day.  HTH!

  • Thanks, I will look into it.

My doctor is very supportive, but I do have a few concerns.  2 things happened during my pregnancy, that I feel that he had his hands tied, and made decisions based on hospital policy, that he didn't agree with.

A week before I had dd at 38 week, he sent me to the hospital, for steady cramping and stomach pain, I had been 3 cms at my last checkup.  He checked me again,  no change, and the nst showed no contrations, he seemed hestitant, but sent me home, telling me to keep my appointment for the next day. The next day, he explained to me that inductions don't usually occur to 39 weeks when things are going good.  He did this without me mentioning anything.  Then at my 39 weeks check up, I was 4.5 cms.  He set up my induction for a few days later, I was to just have my water broke.  I just very much got the impression that if it was up to him, he would have just induced me when I was at the hospital the first time.

Then the day before I was to be induced, I was having new, heavy discharge, so he sent me to the hospital again, when he checked me this time, I was 5.5 cms, still no contractions, but said I had to stay, since he didn't want me to have dd on the side of the road.  So when he went to break my water, he realized she was now breech, hadn't been since about 30 weeks.  He explained that he had to do a csection, and that was the general rule, and when on and on for about 5 minutes about it.  I could tell he again, didn't really agree with the decision.

I work at a doctor's office, so I see the red tape that doctors have to go through for insurance/fear of law suits.  So I understand his position, but I don't like the this particular hospital has a really high c section rate.
