Trying to Get Pregnant

Pomegranate Juice?

This is probably an old discussion, but tell me about it if you are drinking it and TTC.  How much should you drink to get the benefits?  I found some at the natural health food store but its mixed with blueberry (I was scared it wasn't going to taste good, so I got a blend).  Are the blends less beneficial?

Re: Pomegranate Juice?

  • Pomegranate juice can help to thicken your lining which would help with implantation.  Pom brand juice is expensive, try Minute Maid Blueberry Pom.  Please avoid other blends, most don?t contain enough real pom to help your lining.  If you don?t like the flavor, try adding some sparkling water.  Drink 8oz of juice a day from CD1-O.  You can drink it past ovulation, but it won?t impact your lining at that point.

  • I was actually just looking this up last night. All I could find to back up the claims of pom juice was well...nothing. I found a bunch of articles about how POM Wonderful was being sued for touting their drink as a "cure" or help for a bunch of medical issues. So that didn't give me much confidence in pom juice as a fertility aid. Personally, I'd just drink if you like it. Not to help you conceive. But that's just me.

And if you see this post, how do you know how much really pom juice is in each one?

  • The common recommendation is 8 oz per day from CD1-O. I think the Minute Maid-type blends with lots of sugar, etc. aren't necessarily as concentrated as Pom Wonderful, etc., but it sounds like the kind you got might be fine. If I were you I'd read the label and make my best guess.

I also just have to say that there's little empirical research that this actually works, but it's a very popular thing to do on this board. I'm actually trying it despite that for the first time this cycle because I wanted to throw something new into the mix. Just wouldn't have felt right if I didn't add that in; make sure you do your own research and decide for yourself. Good luck!

I drink it, about 8 oz a day (b/c it's so expensive). I just found it at costco though and it's a much better deal :)

  • I'm very skeptical that pom juice would really do much. Anyone else?

Yep. See my post above. I think its a load of BS, probably started by POM itself.

That wouldn't surprise me. A quick google search can show equal info as to it aiding fertility and causing issues with TTC. I don't understand why people jump on the pom wagon and think it is going to make a huge impact on TTC.

  • I think a lot of the time we mistake something that's good for you for something that's good for conception.  Pomegranate is good for you certainly...  It's also especially good for men as it's been shown to shrink prostates, but since we don't have any of those....  Yeah....

  • I drink it just in case but I also love the taste of Pomegranate juice so it's a win win for me :)
  • I'm with Sheena on this one - I've not been able to find a scrap of scientific evidence in support of drinking pom to help your uterine lining.  There was a study, though, that showed it helped sperm quality in men, so maybe give it to your H instead. I think a lot of people drink it because it feels good to throw something new into the routine, but I wouldn't call it a "must" for TTC by any means.

Yes  There is absolutely zero scientific evidence regarding POM and uterine lining.

I've wondered this about a lot of things on there, especially pineapple core. Yes, it contains bromelain, but I spent a lot of time researching and couldn't find any link between bromelain and implantation. Maybe we should start thinking about rewriting it?
