I am getting ready to start registering and one of the places I am considering is Amazon, so I wanted to see what other people's experiences have been. I realize some people are more likely to buy gifts online than others, but for those of you who registered at Amazon, did you find that people mostly stuck to the stores they could go visit or did you get a lot of gifts from your Amazon registry? My thought was that it would be convenient and cheaper for guests, but I'm not sure how many would take advantage of it.
If I do go with Amazon, would you recommend making the second place Target or Babies 'R us? Both are about the same distance from where most of my guests live.
Thanks!
Re: Registering at Amazon
We registered at Amazon and BRU. My shower is tomorrow and only 1 thing has been purchased off the Amazon registry and more than half of our BRU registry has been purchased. I think people like to go look at and pick out baby gifts in person. The one caveat to our Amazon registry is that it is all cloth diapering supplies and bedding, that's it. So it may just be that people don't want to buy those things.
I also think the success of an online registry depends on your guests, some people may prefer to shop online and if your guests fall into that category then an Amazon registry would probably be very well received.

I used myregistry.com which lets you make a custom registry across many stores. I registered for a ton of stuff on Amazon because they have the best prices. Lots of people bought off Amazon but some also just bought the same items from in-store. I think it was perfectly convenient.
I did Amazon & BRU, and I've not had any showers yet. One person (who cannot come to a shower) bought a bunch of smaller things off BRU & dropped the gift off with my mom. 14/45 things have been purchased off of Amazon- larger gifts from our families (that needed to be shipped) and a gift from someone who probably can't come to the shower.
I'm traveling from Pennsylvania to Texas for a shower though, so Amazon's shipping option was really nice. Aside from that, I registered at BRU exclusively for people shopping in-store. Amazon is mostly stuff I really wanted/better price/cuter stuff. BRU is more basic necessities.
FWIW, I operate with the assumption that no one will use the registry (other than family).

Thanks, I just learned about the Amazon completion program, didn't know that was even a perk! That's great, I'm primarily relying on Amazon for my registry because it has more options, typically better prices and you easily get free shipping. My family and friends are across the coast, so while I'm not going to have a shower, if people wanted to send gifts off the registry this would be an easy way to do it. Otherwise, its a great way to stay organized when purchasing your own stuff. Just click and go. I better learn to be restrained so that I can actually take advantage of that completion coupon.
I only registered at Amazon and have my shower next month. People have already started buying off the registry. My sister only did Amazon and had a lot of success.
I wouldn't worry about those that want to shop in a store, because there's an option on Amazon that says to reserve the item (remove from registry) b/c you're buying it at a store and not online.
Also, love the universal registry option that allows you to add items from several stores.
