And who tells the pharmacy to add a flavor anyway? When I took a little piece of paper in, they asked about flavor. But all our doctors send them in electronically now and they aren't asking me what flavor DD wants. Then it's just ready at the pharmacy... in all its nasty flavor glory.
DD just got hyroxyzine today for the hideous hives she's had almost daily since Easter. She has to take it for 3 weeks. And it tastes like ass. This kid takes most medicine like a champ and this stuff is just rolling down her chin as she gags on it. So I tasted it and it is nasty. So can I get flavor added or is it too late? Because if it can't taste better I'm going to have to hog tie her.

Some will, some won't. For us (I work in a pharmacy), the system we use requires us to subtract the amount of the flavoring liquid (usually 1-5 mL) from the amount of water that we add to the Rx. So if some of the medicine is already gone, this could present a problem. Some pharmacies that use the same system ignore this, and just add the water, then add the flavoring on top of that. Trouble with it is, it will slightly dilute the meds.
And just as an FYI, there's generally a "comments" section that the doctor can add something like "please add banana flavor, customer willing to pay extra fee." And that helps us too, so we can be prepared for that ahead of time. Ask your doctor to do this.
As a general rule, we don't add the water OR the flavor until the customer is standing right in front of us. This way, the meds don't expire before they're supposed to, and we are assured they really want the flavor and are willing to pay the extra $3.
