Baby Names

s/o Audrey

If DC#2 is a girl, I really like the name Audrey. DH likes the name but says we shouldn't use it.

She will have a cousin Audra (who is 7 years older and lives 4 hours away)

DH thinks that they names are too similar and we shouldn't consider Audrey.

What do you think?  Too similar or doesn't really matter??? Any good ammunition for my argument is welcome

Re: s/o Audrey

  • Have you asked the cousin Audra's parents what they'd think of you using a name so similar?  I personally wouldn't mind using a name similar to a cousin's, but it wouldn't be worth starting a family feud over, either.

  • It definitely shouldn't matter. I'm a Sara and my cousin is Sarah. We have different last names so whatevs. I think it's fine.

  • Doesn't matter. It's a different name. Use it.

  • hmm i think i'd probably run it by her, especially if you're doubtful in the slightest. she may not even care at all. i kind of see it this way: i have a cousin named madeline. that wouldn't stop me from naming my daughter madison, even though they're very similar.

  • Depends on your family. We have had some minor drama over an Emily/Emma cousin pair.

If it's just a name on your list and not THE NAME, I'd keep looking. It sounds like your DH isn't all that enthusiastic, so I'll bet you can come up with something you both like.

I'd keep looking, but that's just me.
  • I think it's fine, go for it. If you live 4 hrs away from each other, chances are they won't be around one another often enough  for the name similarities to get confusing or annoying.

DD is Annabell & she has a cousin who's name is Isabelle, they are 2 months apart & we see them all the time & we've never had an issue with it.

  • I'd probably run it by my cousin first but just as a head's up that you're planning to use the name.
