Self-confidence is a trait I really hope to pass on to my baby and I'd love to have a name or middle name that embodies that for a girl. Fay means confidence, but that is my MIL's name, so... no. Anyone know of any other names meaning or personifying confidence?
Re: Name meaning confidence?
I would worry less about what someone has claimed is a name's etymological meaning and more about naming your child something that makes you and THE CHILD think of confidence.
For instance, I wanted my daughter to be a strong and powerful woman, so I gave her a name strongly associated with several female leaders.
The literal, etymological meaning of "Mary" is "bitterness" but that's not what most people think of when they heart hat name. They think of the Virgin Mary. The etymological meaning of "Kennedy" is "misshapen head" but most people think of President Kennedy.
Give your child a name that you or most people associate with that quality.
You could use a name meaning "strong" for inner strength. Or maybe even the name of a mythological goddess?
Suggestions - Valerie (strength), Matilda (strength in battle), Millicent (strength), Athena (goddess of wisdom & war), Valentina (strong), Imani (faith in Swahili), Nanna (brave), Camilla (name of legendary warrior), Aoife (legendary warrior princess), Bellatrix (female warrior), Hera (hero, warrior), Maeve (legendary warrior queen), Valencia (power), Aurora (goddess of the sunrise), Freya (goddess of love & fertility), Luna (moon goddess), Isis (Egyptian goddess), Victoria (victorious)
My top name for this would be Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris. She's their version of Saint Patrick.
Athena would be my second.
Then there's Joan for Joan of Arc.
Helen, for Helen of Troy (or I prefer Helena) but although this one invokes desirability which feeds confidence, Helen wasn't all that powerful.
You could be more literal and name her Honor or Grace.
But FYI, a name will not inherantly give confidence, parenting will. Sometimes the exact opposite happens. Hubby has a name women love, but guys ridicule. It forged him into a a brash man's man, probably more so than if he was named something super manly like Randall.
Ohh, Hera & Isis are really good ones.
