I am 32 wks with mono/di twins and we are hoping to get at least another 2 wks before delivery. Give me an idea of what 34 wks would be like. I know each situation is different but I am trying to prepare myself and the hublet to greet our girls.
My daughter was born last week (5-4)at 34 weeks and a couple days. I had a placenta abruption. She was on cpap for 12 hours, then breathing all on her own after that. She had 4 or so apneias in the last first few days but other then that breathing completely fine. She was born with a lot of blood in her stomach because of the abruption and had a hard time digesting her first few feeds which were about a teaspoon. She was born 4lbs 13oz got down to 4lbs 9oz and 9 days later is 4lbs 12 oz. She went from eating a teaspoon every 3 hours to eating 2 oz every 3 hours in a matter of 48 hours. She was very jaundice and spent 6 days under the lights sunning her self. It also took 7 days for her to be able to regulate her own temperature. She has spent 9 days in the special care nursery and we are picking her up and bringing her home in a couple hours.
DD1 was born at 33w6d after pPROM and fetal distress by emergency C-section. We did not have time for steroid shots, but she came out breathing on her own and never needed oxygen support (I've since been told that babies under stress in utero - incl twins - are more prepared for breathing on their own). She was pretty tiny, 3lb 12oz, but spent most of her time in the NICU as a feeder/grower. We went home after 16 days. We've had some hiccups along the way, mostly related to severe silent reflux and lack of weight gain, but she seemed to get into a groove by 4mos or so and has done great ever since. She's still tiny (20lbs at 18mos), but she's hitting all her milestones and doing great! GL!
My twins were born at 32w 5d, bc I had pre-e and were delivered c-section. DD was 3lb 14oz abd DS was 4lb 12oz. They came home together after 3 1/2 weeks in the NICU. I had the steriod shots and the babies had no problems besides an occasional self-resolved brady, bc of this they were on monitors when I brought them home. (this is very common for preemies.)
Thank you to each of you. It helps to know that it might be difficult but comes out ok. I hope each of your babies is healthy and full of joy. Thank u again.
