It's coming, hard and fast.
Yesterday I caught C literally on the top of the rail... twice. A shift in his weight would've sent him over the edge but he pulled himself back down when I caught him. He knew he was doing something wrong but he REALLY wanted out of the crib. Normally he's very content to just hang out in there until we get him.
So... do we continue to press our luck and keep him in the crib or bite the bullet and convert it to the toddler bed? We would put a temporary gate on his room to keep him from wandering the house at night. I don't want to spend $60 or more to put some sort of silly tent on the crib.. seems kind of ridiculous.
I am SO not ready for this!!
Re: Crib Escaping?
We put the toddler conversion rail thingy on and he's doing great.
Ya, I wish.
We put the rail up that allows him to climb in an out of the crib (I guess it's called the toddler conversion rail?) but he hasn't slept a night in his crib since December. He sleeps with us. I've created a monster- a cute monster but still a monster.
T was an escape artist at 11 months (she walked at 8). She would flip her leg over and slid down the bars. I had her in a toddler bed at 13 months. She was stressing me out because I was worried she'd hurt herself (she never did, but still), and I would hover until she fell asleep. It took a little adjustment, and a baby gate on her door, but she got the point about staying in her room to sleep. No gate = escape and climb. Everything. E never tried, but she was in a toddler bed just before 2, and K, exactly like T, except I think it was closer to 15 months when she realized she could. L was never well enough. They all take after their uncle. Nice.
I would put him in a toddler bed or put the conversion kit on the crib if you have it. Better than the tent idea for sure!
What about a crib tent? I have friend who swear by them!

Sorry...tried to delete...missed the first time I read that you specifically do NOT want a crib tent...LOL....nevermind!
@Jen - I know your pain, Margaux is still with us, too. ><
You could try the toddler bed, at least he wouldn't fall on his noggin.
Yeah, the crib's been down all the way ever since he could stand up in it. And I just can't justify buying some silly tent thingy for a couple of months use.
Our crib came with the toddler rail and everything. I just didn't think I'd be needing to use it so soon!! My baby is too little for this!!! (sniff!)
M can climb out of his crib. At first it scared the crap out of me but now, since he can do it safely, it's mostly a concern about him getting out and running around the house.
As it takes more effort to climb out of the crib than to climb out of a toddler bed we're leaving him in the crib. That said, he's in our room so we can get him when he wakes up, before he tries to escape.
