What's up with nude maternity photos!?

So I was googling (yes... used as a verb:) maternity photos for inspiration, and almost all the sites that popped up were a bunch of naked pregnant ladies w/ & w/o their S/O.  Is it just me or is this a little weird?  What are you going to do with those?  I wouldn't want to see naked pics of my mom pregnant or not.  And I don't want to see naked pictures of my friends/family.  I asked my cousin about this and she went and got an ablum to show me of her nude maternity photo shoot with DH. I didn't really need to see that.  Awkward.

I think a few exposed belly pics are cute, and it is neat to see how yoiur belly has changed.  However, I had no idea that nude maternity photos were such a trend... or are they?

 So.. do any of you all have clothed/outdoor/family maternity photo inspirations you would like to share.  We are thinking of having my photographer dad do some family photos this weekend.  Thanks.

I find maternity photos in general weird, and this is coming from a girl who loves having her picture taken. But, to each their own.

I think it's pretty popular. I have known more than one person who did them. I'm like you. I wouldn't want anyone other than DH to see them. The children wouldn't want to see that either.

My brother also a photographer took mine outside in a park.

DH and I had a debate about this a few years ago when our wedding photographer sent out Christmas cards displaying collection of photos she'd taken over the year.  Dead center was this naked pregnant woman laying on rocks by a stream and just covered enough with a satin shawl/ribbon.   I said that was totally wrong to put on an x-mas card, DH thought it was expressing the beauty of pregnancy.  So I asked him what if it was his sister?  He shut up real fast.

I totally agree with you on the nude maternity photos.  You could do some of the standard poses, like DH kissing your belly or his hands around your waist and forming a heart over your belly.  Those are really the only 2 poses for maternity portraits I've seen.  Your photographer may recommend some, so don't forget to ask.

This! I don't think I've ever heard anyone else admit this. I don't like them. Seriously, I think I'm rocking the cute pregnant lady thing pretty hard but of all of the times in my life that I think I need glamor shots, this is not one of them. I'm 30 weeks now and I still need to take a couple of pictures to appease the FB friends/relatives but I'm having professional portraits done.

Haha. I'm so glad I'm not alone. I thought it was totally normal to have a nude one done after I saw those. I felt weird because I am SO not comfortable with that and I don't see the point. I'm getting my maternity pics taken on Sunday and I can't wait! I told the photographer I'm pretty much down for whatever, EXCEPT nude. So glad she was in agreement with me.

Here are a few of ours.  We basically just did regular pictures...and I just happen to be pregnant.  No bare belly ones for me.  Sorry in advance if these are big.

I agree the nude ones are weird. I would feel awkward having those all over the internet or even having family see them. Its especially weird when the guy has his shirt off too and he's covering the girl's boobs with his hands, I see that a lot.

A friend of mine did some for me yesterday and the ones I've seen so far are really cute. We did a few bare belly pictures, one with a pink ribbon tied around my belly, and some with my wedding rings on top of my belly, but most of them were clothed.
