not smiling at 11 weeks....

Hello all, my dd is not smiling yet. I am a little concerned.  Anyone else experience this?  She is not in pain and will lay very content, but no matter what I do she will not smile.  I know it seems minor in comparison to everything else, but it is yet one more thing that is concerning.

 Thanks!

Re: not smiling at 11 weeks....

  • Our son didn't smile until 3 months or later, and then it was only briefly and wasn't really at anyone at first.  He now smiles a lot!  We chalk it up to the initial brain injury and just taking a little bit to put things together.

I was really worried too, though.  I know how you feel!

  • Landon didn't start smiling until he was around 3months old and even then it was very sporadic.  He now smiles alot at me and my husband but typically does not smile at strangers.  I can sympathize with how you feel.  Especially when you see other babies smiling.  I had a really hard time for a long time until he finally started to smile.  Hang in there :)
  • I don't think we got a "smile" out of Nate until he was about 4 months. Before then, I could usually tell when he was content or even wanting to smile because he seemed to smile through his eyes if you get my drift. I didn't worry too much about it because I knew he would be delayed due to his diagnosis. Smiling was small stuff to me back then.

It seems to be a thing other people or strangers focus on a lot. They sometimes get a bit bent out of shape if he doesn't smile for them. He does, it is just a "small smile". I will usually tell people when they are getting a smile. "aww, there's a little smile for you"

Nate has some 7th nerve damage or possibly nerve hypoplasia in his face probably due to one of his deletions. You can see his full blown smile in my siggy. It is a small smile, but I'll take it!
