Sick Kiddo--Recommend your thermometer please

I wake up to DD puking on me (awesome) and she has been pretty icky most of the day. This is the first time of her being sick so I felt kind of clueless.  We just snuggled, drank water, stuck to the BRAT diet etc. I realized the only thermometer we have is the digital one that we've had since she was born. Is it weird to be taking her temp rectally at 18 months? She won't sit still long enough for arm. Are those ear or temporal ones pretty accurate? What do you use?

Re: Sick Kiddo--Recommend your thermometer please

  • Aw, sorry she is sick!  That is no fun!  We have an ear thermometer that I really don't like.  The only thing I like about it is that it has disposable covers so I can use it on all my kids.  It's not very accurate - it can be off by about .5 and I always have to use it and both ears.

So... I wouldn't buy an ear thermometer.  But I am very interested to hear what others say about ther temporal ones.  Sorry I'm not much help!  Hope she feels better soon!

  • I don't think there is a perfect thermometer out there LOL!  We have a rectal/under arm and a temporal.  Usually the temporal is pretty accurate but today all have been off.  I took her temp tonight with rectal (she HATED it) and it read 100.6, under arm read 100.4 (but your supposed to add a degree technically) and then temporal read 102.2, so who knows, LOL!!  I love our temporal though b/c typically it gives me a good ball park area about where they are.  Sorry your little one is sick :(  DD is sick too, UGH!

Our kids are 19mths apart and we LOVE it!!

Married to my BFF on 8.13.05 (after dating 5 years)!

I like our temporal thermometer for quick reads.  For accurate reads, the Vicks rectal thermometer is probably the best.  https://www.amazon.com/Vicks-V934-Baby-Rectal-Thermometer/dp/B0002AHVZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1305255924&sr=8-1
