Clicky! about air conditioning

Is your air conditioning on?[Poll]

Re: Clicky! about air conditioning

  • My a/c has been on intermittently since the end of March.  We don't have any screens on our windows, so it's not an option to open them.  We either have the heat or a/c on.  Several days in the past couple of weeks I've had the air on during the day, and switched to heat at night.

  • One of my childcare parents didn't seem too thrilled that our air wasn't on yet.  And we only have a window unit in our family room, which, thankfully, cools most of our house except for our bedroom.  (This makes it sound like our house is really small, which I guess it kind-of is, but we have a ranch with a pretty large family room.)

Anyways, I do not want to turn our air on for only 3 warm days!  It's only going to get way hotter this summer and yeah, it was definitely warm in here today.  But I am growing a person inside of me and moving around just as much as all my kiddos and I can take it!  I just feel like I don't need to be that spoiled yet...

No screens would drive me crazy!  I love having the windows open and airing out the house.

  • Begrudgingly, yes.  It was 84 in our house, and I thought it was getting a little ridiculous.  My husband and I had an unspoken competition over who was going to hold out the longest, but I gave in.

  • Our house has NO shade after about noon, so it's miserable! I got home last night and H had all the windows open with ceiling fans on in every single room and it was still 84 degrees. I lasted all of 5 minutes before I went around shutting windows and turning the air on. I don't do well with heat, I despise summer. Spring and fall I love! Anything over mid 80's and especially humidity just make me angry :)

  • DH always yells at me for wanting to turn on the heat/ac too early in the season. Yesterday I still hadn't turned it on and it was 86* in our house by the time DH got home. I was pretty sticky but Nick and I stayed in the living room w/ all the windows and door open and a fan going so we were okay-- I more just wanted to have DH have to be the one to give in and turn the a/c on since its always me Wink

This minus all the kiddos.  But, we do have a TON of shade, so its stays moderately cool in here.  Mosst years its the end of june or beginning of July before I cave and turn it on.

  • We get intense afternoon/evening sun right into our family room, so we gave in.  Also Levi only sleeps swaddled, so we turned it on so he didn't get too hot.
  • Ok, I'll be honest. I don't get the whole "wait as long as possible to turn on the a/c or heat competition/challenge" that seems to be so prevalent in this region. I like a lot of modern advancements in technology and I think a/c and heat are some advancements that are pretty darn good. I am not the least bit opposed to using them.

  • We have a ton of shade too - at least 1 big tree on every side of our house.  4pm is the hottest part of the day right?  I looked at our thermostat around then and it said 81... not too bad... :)
  • I caved in and turned it on yesterday.  It's amazing how much it heated up yesterday.  When I looked in the morning the thermostat said 75 and then when I got back home in the afternoon it said 81.  Later in the evening after showering and feeling sticky immediately afterwards and seeing the bedroom thermometer reading 86 I decided enough is enough and turned on the air.

Normally I try to hold out until at least Memorial Day.  I was worried about our dog more than anything.  I don't know how he stands the heat with his fur coat!

Agreed! It's money well spent, in my opinion. If I don't spend it on air conditioning, I'll likely be spending it on marriage counseling because I'll be one cranky you-know-what.

Ours has been on for a few days.  My spring allergies are horrible and with everyone out mowing their grass, I would be miserable if we left the windows open.

  • I'm a picky popsicle (love it!) because we're living with my parents this week while our new floor is installed. They have their air on, so I guess the answer is technically, yes. ;)

    Me too.

I also have a feverish infant, no shade, a big sunroom and honestly my seasonal allergies do so much better if I close the windows and use the a/c.  So yeah, the a/c has been on this week.

  • We have no choice, the entire back side of our ranch house gets full sun.  I don't like it frigid inside, but I do keep it in the upper 70's in the house.  We also don't have screens in our windows at the moment (one of my to-do's this weekend), so opening them isn't an option until I get them put back in.
