Ugh - so hard thinking about moving

I am seriously going to have a panic attack before this is all over. DH and I are going to Palo Alto this weekend to look at neighborhoods. Exciting but really cannot stand thinking about selling this house I bought all by myself 8 years ago, brought 2 babies home to and JUST remodeled. Not to mention my whole perfect network of friends and family here.  Bleh. I know I'll have good and bad days but I just pray I fall in love w/ it enough to make it a nice change for us at least for a few years.  At least the weather is better there.

Vent over. :-)

Re: Ugh - so hard thinking about moving

  • I can relate.  I'm in the middle of moving, most of my house is packed up, it was put on the market last week.  We have an apartment lined up and move in next weekend.  It's starting to hit me that I am moving 300 miles from where I grew up, from my friends and some of my family. Crying

I hope you find something you LOVE!  Good luck!

  • I lived in that area for two years - worked in Mountain View, Oakland and Redwood City. There are some very nice areas down there between SF and San Jose. Good luck! Exciting, but the actual moving always sucks, though.

  • San Mateo school district has a really good Montessori elementary school. I also know a great in home day care preschool in Belmont. If you aren't against about 30 minutes each way (during commuter hours) you might want to consider the area behind Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo. There is even a caltran station there. San Carlos and Belmont are both nice small communities. Foster City is a really nice area especially if you want good schools and good diversity. I use to teach there and the parents were amazing. I have heard great things about Sunnyvale too but I haven't taught there. I did some teaching in Cupertino which is known for their schools and I was not impressed. Keep in mind the 280 is a good commuting option. Also California standards for Kindergarten are a lot higher than Washington.

Kindergarten there you should be reading be able to write short sentences, some basic addition and have down some subtraction concepts. They will start nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. I had 2nd graders (about half the class) who knew all their multiplication up to 12's before spring break and who were also writing me 2-3 page book reports (on binder paper.)

  • Also https://www.prochnowrealtors.com/ Baidra is a long lost cousin of mine and she knows the more southern areas really well. You might want to e-mail her and she can steer you in the right direction and if you want she can help you find something. She has a child, and grew up in the area so she might be good for info on schools too.

  • Sorry!  I totally understand the panic involved!  Think of all the fun places you can do daytrips to and take the kids to the beach :)  They can play outside year round and maybe you can come home lots to visit?
