Carters clothes shrinks?

Did anyone else notice that after the first wash of Carters clothes they shrink, A LOT? LO is wearing their 3 month size but I started to go through stuff the next size up (6 month) and wash! Everything came out so small - I def think it will all fit NOW! I wash in cold and dry on LOW... ugh

Anyone else have similar problem with Carters? And if so advice to NOT shrink stuff?

  • that hasn't happened to me. ds is still in 3 month Carter's stuff but 3-6 or 6 in other brands.

I also wash on cold and dry on low and I noticed the same thing. I don't have advice, but I have the same problem.
  • No advice, but same problemSad

  • Same problem here.  I was just thinking I need to get her bigger sizes and wash them because they will probably fit now after a trip through the wash.

Maybe I will do an experiment and put one on her before and after a wash cycle and see if there really is a difference or if she is just growing like a weed.

  • Its strange to me because it seems like its Carters more than anything else... And I do like their clothes a lot. Most other stuff is from Old Navy, Gap or Ralph Lauren and they do not shrink as much!! Frustrating. I think I also will start to buy a size up in Carters...

  • I don't have this issue w/ Carters.  W/ old navy, absolutely.
Baby Boy Born 3.15.11. 8lb 9oz, 21.75in. 6 month stats: 20lb 11oz (92%tile), 30.12in.(100%tile - who knew it went over 99th? Which means 100% of other 6 month olds are shorter than mine!)
  • No and I've been using Carters for over a year and a half.  Brands that really shrink are Koala Baby and Miniwear, usually found at Babies r Us.

I have noticed that most baby clothes shrink a bit, but I think carter's stuff just runs really small. My eight week old is in 6 mo clothes and she was only 7 lbs. 11 ounces at birth. It's crazy!

  • I agree - Carter's seem to run small, my 3 month old is already too long for the 6 months carters stuff.  So, I think we should buy 3-6 months larger for our kids.  I do love the Carter's stuff though, so I will try buying bigger.

obviously anything 100% cotton will shrink but carter's run a little small so assuming they shrink the same amount as other brands, they may still look smaller. ds wears carter's perfectly but he's long and lean. he's still in newborn and garanimals and gerber are too big.
