Cincinnati Babies

Reproductive Endocrinologist

Hello all, I mostly lurk on this board, but had a couple of questions that I was hoping someone could help me with. To summarize, 2 weeks ago, I lost my unborn baby boy at 18.5 weeks. It's been a very difficult couple of weeks and we were hoping that we would get some answers at my f/u OB appt yesterday. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the pathology report on the baby was fine and they checked me for a handful of clotting disorders, but everything was negative. My OB said it was just a rare "fluke", but since I have an autoimmune disorder already, I suspect that I have another one that lead to my miscarriage. She feels that she's checked everything and is done with her work-up. So, i'm hoping that a reproductive endocrinologist/high risk OB could do a further w/u. My OB didn't offer a referral and I am trying to avoid offending their practice since they've been great and very supportive. I'm terrified of htis happening again and want to be sure we've ruled out everything prior to TTC again. So my questions are: 1) If you see an RE, who and would you recommend him/her? 2) Did you need a referral from your OB to see an RE? My regular endocrinologist would probably make a referral if it is necessary, but he won't want to step on anyones toes... Thank you for any information that you can offer...

Re: Reproductive Endocrinologist

  • I don't have any advice on the RE front but I just wanted to say how sorry I am about your loss! My thoughts are with you & your family!

  •  I am so sorry for your loss =(   {{HUGS}}

    1) If you see an RE, who and would you recommend him/her? I saw Dr. Scheiber at www.cincinnatifertility.com

    I highly recommend that group

    2) Did you need a referral from your OB to see an RE?

you do NOT need a referral unless your insurance requires one.

My regular endocrinologist would probably make a referral if it is necessary, but he won't want to step on anyones toes... My endocrinologist suggested I seek an RE as well.

You won't be in wrong has with those doctors, there one job is to get you pregnant and have a healthy baby. That's their speciality. I don't like to step on my OB's toes either, but this is their job, what they specialize in. Contacting an RE is very empowering!

I am here if you need anything:)

  • I'm sorry to hear about your loss.  We m/c at 16 weeks and had all the tests done which showed nothing was wrong too.  We were referred to Cincinnati Institute for Reproductive Health which we were ready to make an appointment for after a 6 month TTC break and ended up PG with DS2.  https://www.cincinnatifertility.com/ They come very highly recommended.

  • I want to start off by saying how very sorry I am. I have been in your shoes and am in your shoes with wanting to know why. I don't know how your loss occured but my water broke out of no where at 17.5 weeks. I eventually went in to labor at 18weeks 1 day and delivered a perfectly healthy little girl who was just too small to survive more than 30 minutes.

I have been to 4 doctors and asked as many questions as I could think of. I was also told it was a 'fluke'. I was not diallated when my water broke, I didn't have an infection, and baby was just fine. They believe I may have had an infection in the amniotic fluid, but there is no way to know now.

I am currently 14 weeks pregnant and I saw Dr's Awadalla and Dr Schreiber at IRH. It's located in Rookwood Commons. I don't have anything negative to say about them. I really like the doctors and the staff there.

I can tell you that I am a ball of nerves with this pregnancy. I'm terrified that they were wrong! What if it wasn't a fluke? I guess I may never know, which is very hard. I feel like if I just had a reason I could work toward preventing a repeat. I am sure you have all of these same fears and I just want you to know that it's ok to have those feelings.

I found so much support from talking to other people who really understood where I was and what I had been thru. Please, if you would like to ask me any questions or talk about anything, I am here for you. I also found support on the ttcal and miscarriage boards.

My email address is apence83@aol.com if you ever want to talk.

  • I am so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue to work through this.

Another recommendation for Dr. Awadalla and Dr. Scheiber. Dr. Scheiber is responsible for this current pregnancy. They and their whole staff are phenomenal.

    Good luck to you.

  • I am so very sorry for your loss  ((hugs))

I ditto everyone elso on seeing Dr. Awadalla / Dr. Scheiber.  I have seen both doctors and you really can't go wrong with either.  They are great!  GL

  •   I am sooo sorry for your loss, my heart still aches from my mc 6 years ago. I pray you find peace and answers to all of your questions.  I would def go to an RE due o your recent loss.

I would HIGHLY recomend  my RE Dr Neeoo Chin at chinbaby.com.  He helped us with both of our children.  He has been voted BEST DOCTORS in Cincinnati several times. His office has nice hours for working patients.  He opens at 7am and he has came in and opened his office on weekends just so he could monitor me.  Most of the time I don't even have to sit in waiting room, I was in and out quickly every visit.   He is very relaxed and easy to talk to.  He uses a holistic approach to fertility, and has several education classes and support group meetings for families if they like.

  • Thank you all for your helpful posts and all of the information; I appreciate all of the referrals and I already have an appointment scheduled with IRH.  I will also keep Dr. Chin in mind though, especially because the hours sound great and would work with my schedule.
