February 2011 Moms

It's official, I am done...

With having children. I had my tubal surgery this passed Friday. I was really ok with my decision but just a little nervous about the procedure.

I mentioned before that I had prior abdominal surgery (appendix removed, then part of my colon as a complication from the appendix and a few other surgeries to fix all that) and my OB/GYN wasn't too sure how compilcated those previous surgeries would effect this procedure.

She was not able to do the procedure using laproscopy. I have a small incision above my belly button, to the left and one good sized one in my belly button. Those are from where she tried to go the easy way but there was too much scar tissue. I ended up with an almost 4inch incision right at my hairline and she was able to get it done that way.

I was miserable when I first woke up. I had the procedure at a surgery center instead of the main hospital. They have limits on how much pain medicine you can have and still go home and I was not responding well to what they were giving me. I have built up a tolerance to that stuff since my other surgery. So I had to be transported to the main hospital by ambulance, admitted and given way more powerful pain medication for 24 hours. I would say that the cramping I had that first 24 hours was worse than child birth. It was constant and very, very painful.... like a super bad period cramping x1,000!!! Anyway, I made it through just fine and I am still taking one pain medication. Today I finally did not hurt sitting still but moving around too much gets to painful. Hopefully this swelling in my legs will go down soon and the pain will get better and better everyday.
