How do you properly thank someone for such a generous gift?

So, H's parents came to our house tonight and told us they needed to talk. They bought us a 20 ft camper! It is amazingly nice and it was SUPER generous and unexpected. They have a huge motorhome and they want us to be able to go with them and camp with the kids. They know were not in a place financially to do so, so they did it for us. I'm so shocked and excited and I'm not sure how H and I should express our gratitude. I feel like nothing will be enough. .

  • What the heck?! That's amazingly generous!! I would, obviously, write a thank you note, and have your kids contribute. Maybe your oldest can say what she is most looking forward to and include that in the note?

And then whenever you go anywhere in it, take tons of pics and make your in-laws a photo album on snapfish or something. Grandparents love pics of the grandkids!

  • That is so awesome!  When someone gives a gift selflessly like that, I think the best way to thank them is to just enjoy the gift to the fullest, and just tell them how much you appreciate it.  That's all they want, is for you to really enjoy it.  I'm not sure that a material gesture would be necessary.  Maybe a framed picture of your family or your child(ren) having fun on a vacation you took in the camper along with a heartfelt note.

I agree with all this.  I'm sure the memories they'll have of camping with you and your LO's will be all they want in return!

I'm sure you guys are right. The whole reason it even happened was because FIL was looking to upgrade their current motorhome and MIL said it makes her sad they don't have room for us to go with them and how much fun the kids would/will have camping. I guess FIL said, "well, let's get them a camper!". I'm still in complete shock. Its such a thoughtful and generous thing for them to do. And I can't wait to take the kids camping!
