Hard water

What is the difference between hard and soft water? and how does that affect the detergent? I was about to buy online some rockin' green detergent online and I read in the description that is for "not too hard not too soft water" and I remember hearing that my town has very hard water...anyone with this kind of water, what detergent do you use?

Re: Hard water

  • Hard water has a collection of minerals in it. Soft water doesn't (or at least has less of them). Soft water isn't very common unless, of course, you have a water softener. The minerals in hard water will seep into fabric when you do laundry and make it more difficult to get them clean. It can also cause problems with discoloration. If you have hard water you likely have white crusty build up around your faucets. You can always google your town name + water type. Most people have average water. Don't know about what detergent to use. For some reason Tide stands out in my mind but I could have made that up.

  • We have hard water. I started out using Tide Free & Clear but we had stink issues. Moved on to 7th generation Free & Clear and had stink issues, too. I got a sample of Rockin' Green Hard Rock and thought it was great, but then I found a deal on Dropps baby and decided to try that. We've been using Dropps for about 2 months now and I love them. I haven't had any buildup or stink issues.
